Duplicate Content - Fact or Fiction?

Is duplicate content really punished? I keep seeing it all over the web, in little one page x-factor type sites to big e-commerce sites, all using the exact same content. I've even seen articles on Ezine from different authors that are identical or nearly so. So what gives? I find it frustrating when I put in all the time and effort to make original content, yet I run into sites with dup. content ranking ahead of me.

  • Bottomline... duplication does not go a long way...
    Syndication is a different story....
    But long term... duplicate content may not be the best strategy...it might get you a flash in the pan at best.. but again....you want t make that decision after much deliberation.
  • So far I've found only hubpages to check for duplicate content. In fact they 'unpublished' one of my submissed stating it is too similar to another article on another website (I submitted it there too). You could use something like spinprofits to get several different 'versions'.

    One 'side effect' I've noticed however is by writing good content lots of people are using it and subsequently backlinking to me. So I'd say keep writing quality original content - but dont be afraid to submit the same article to several directories.

  • The content of one page of mine was copied to bunch of low quality blogs. And guess what happened. The page is still in index but not in search results anymore. I guess it will be cheaper to have the content rewritten than to hunt those blog owner. Duplicate content certainly is big problem.

    In one word--- There is no duplicate Content Penalty---why I am so sure? cause I am running a site that has 1500 duplicate pots...and I didn't used any software to do that. and still I am making around 50$ to $60 per day....hope that gives you the answer..And I am tired of answering the same question...lol
