Is Autoblog content against Adsense TOS?

I've done a few searches for this and am getting mixed results.

Does anyone know for a fact that you can get your Adsense account banned for scraping content (autoblogs)?

    What you might consider though..

I had a friend just last week who had over 200 sites completely deindexed. He went from making over $4000 a month to zilch overnight. His sites still display ads... but ain't no biggie since he no longer has any traffic. Point being.. AdSense has nothing to do with getting your sites deindexed but scraper sites are considered MFA and Google will immediately deindex them if they come across them. That's what you need to worry about. Hell, I'd rather have my adsense account taken away. At least then, you can monetize your sites in other ways. But Google is now deindexing all sites they consider to be of no value... even if the site doesn't have AdSense on it.

Of course, this friend was using the ever crappy wp-robot plugin and the footprint for that is very large... probably the most popular auto blogging tool online. My autoblogs are still coasting right along making a nice income.. but I use a completely custom script that I designed myself.. and it's straight php ... not wordpress at all.

Google will take action against domains that try to rank more highly by just showing scraped or other auto-generated pages that don't add any value to users, for example:

    Auto-generated content: Content generated programatically.

I'd guess that probably includes autoblogging. If Google will take action against those, then I'd guess that AdSense will too.

First of all.. Autoblogging does not exist.. It is purely a made up term to describe the practice of creating blogs with content automatically.

Secondly, you will put your Adsense account at risk if you use coprighted content without permission. Here it is from the horses mouth..
Google AdSense Program Policies - AdSense Help

      Copyrighted Material

AdSense publishers may not display Google ads on web pages with content protected by copyright law unless they have the necessary legal rights to display that content. Please see our DMCA policy for more information.

Whether the autoblogging software can differentiate the content it scrapes between copyrighted and non-copyrighted software is open to debate.

Also, whether you have the time (and patience) to go through every auto generated page on all your sites to check is also open to debate.

Finally, you have to be sure that the content your software scrapes, avoids the following topics.
      • Pornography, adult or mature content
      • Violent content
      • Content related to racial intolerance or advocacy against any individual, group or organisation
      • Excessive profanity
      • Hacking/cracking content
      • Gambling or casino-related content
      • Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia content
      • Sales of beer or hard alcohol
      • Sales of tobacco or tobacco-related products
      • Sales of prescription drugs
      • Sales of weapons or ammunition (e.g. firearms, firearm components, fighting knives, stun guns)
      • Sales of products that are replicas or imitations of designer goods
      • Sales or distribution of coursework or student essays
      • Content regarding programmes which compensate users for clicking ads or offers, performing searches, surfing websites or reading emails
      • Any other content that is illegal, promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others
Personally, I believe there are far better, more lucrative and easier ways of building sites and monetising with Adsense these days.

Didn't you just buy an autoblog solution off of TZ when we were discussing this in another thread?

Yes I did Josh. I don't just give opinions for the sake of it, I actually test methods, tools etc.. I am not on a puritanical mission or anything like that. If something works, I will recommend and share my experiences and give opinions. If people don't agree or like it, I am very cool with that.

The question from the OP was can you risk an Adsense account by scraping content (autoblogs). I merely pointed out the Adsense TOS that was relevant to that and gave my opinions.

As I said in the other thread though, it wouldn't be fair to TZ to give my opinion of his script.

Fair enough! You know I just miss arguing with you.

I'm actually starting down the road of creating sites with value. The auto blog thing is making me over $1200 a month right now... all from just over 6 months of work, but seeing what my neighbor just went through is enough to convince me that Google is going to keep looking for autoblogs and start slapping them all down. It may take some time.. I'm hoping it will be another year or two so I can replace the current stream... but I'm a witness now that the Goo machine don't like em'. My neighbor was the one that got me into this and his sites looked great.. attribution link, all AdSense TOS followed, you name it. And now, all gone. But.. easy come, easy go!

Ahh.. that sounds like a Monty Python sketch.

Good stuff Josh.. Going with the flow may not be as rock and roll as going against the grain but it really is the best way of building a great income that has longevity.

AutoBlogs will NOT get you banned you from Adsense. It is the quality of the autoblog that matters, i.e. there are crappy MFA autoblogs, and there are beautiful autoblogs, well designed and with relevant readable content. The latter will never get you banned from Adsense.

The only issue is, that if your autoblog does not have any SEO done to it, and ONLY comprises irrelevant content, then you risk being totally de-indexed in the Search Engines. As you would be termed as a 'scraper site'.

  • Yes it will, with the new google update they are cracking down on autoblogs. You can still use them but using adsense on them is at your own risk.
