SEO - First Link Priority

Hi Guys,

I just read this great article on "FLP" First Link Priority over at Market Samurai's blog:

Noble Samurai » Website Optimization: First Link Priority

Basically it talks about how Google views your links and how if you have multiple links from Page A to Page B, it ignores duplicate links after the first one.

It also includes a video that explains it a bit easier with examples and they've just added some WordPress information too.

For most of you this is basic SEO but there is still lots of people out there that don't know about this.

Any questions or comments reply to this thread

Stuart.

  • Well, its theoretical SEO. And seeing as how poorly Market Samurai has performed for myself and others lately, I'd be hoping that they might prioritise that a tad more.

    • Actually they say it's not their original finding... they credit it to Leslie Rhodie

  • Great share, Stuart.

People don't just fall into the trap on their own sites either. You will even see it in signature on this forum where people are sending different anchored links to the same page.

It is all just theory though and hard to prove but one to be easily avoided.

It's important to not let it stop you from creating a good user experience on your site though. Sometimes it is handy to link to the same page more than once in content purely for directing your traffic. That should always come first.

    • I totally agree, It's always good to provide a 50/50 balance between structure and SEO, else you would end up with a page full of keyword specific content that just makes no sense to the reader.
