Google Dance - Share Your Experience!

Hi folks,
I've seen a number of posts recently where people have mentioned their sites used to rank on the first page of Google and have now vanished.

More often than not this is for a new site, and is a case of the Google Dance which is Google's algorithm trying to work out where your site belongs.

I thought it might be a cool idea to share your experience of the Google dance. What is the longest that your site has vanished off the radar for, only to return to page one?

For me it's about a month, but when it first happened it was a pretty long/nervous month for me. Luckily my site returned stronger than ever and I now know this is par for the course with new sites. I'm hoping that if others share their experiences it will ease the minds of a lot of newbies.

All the best

  • well , for new sites i have seen this dance or something call sandbox for several times and it took a couple of week to months to comeback to normal rankings . but i had a recent issue with more than 1 year old site which suddenly got disappeared from google for its all keyword now i don't know how long it would take to come back . i can only hope to comeback with some solid backlinking work .

    • TBI, just curious.. when you say "vanish" do you mean your site was sitting in the 100-400 mark?

I'd just like to share something here.. The reason why many websites jump high in the search engines in the first few weeks is because of the new factor your site gives google. After the "honeymoon" stage your website will drop accordingly. (Correct me if I'm wrong, just sharing my experience)

Most people see this drop and figure they were penalized, deindexed, sandboxed, etc. They figure they should let their website rest and it'll jump back up in the serps but thats not the case.

When you achieve that high ranking make sure you maintain your backlinking and slowly increase it over time.

I posted a few threads complaining how my websites all dropped from the #1 spot down to the 10th page and then slowly working it's way up only to realize it was my fault for stopping building backlinks when I needed to maintain building backlinks.

I waited a whole month doing nothing before I took action.

  • Well, my website was #9 on first page for about two weeks and now it got on #13 and #14 on page 2. I'm trying to do some effective backlinking and to index the forum profiles I have created (it's extremely hard to do this, I don't even know if I'm doing it right)!
