I want to start using Mac's as I like how solid they are.

I also know that most of my IM software (too many to name)...WILL NOT WORK ON MACS...

So...

I thought I would use Mac's software called "Parallel's"

Does Parallel's work well will ALL or just some the IM software???

Any issues with it???

I'm needing to obviously figure this out before I blow mucho money on a Mac.

u need uber gobs of ram as I understand - dont expect it to be nice on a Mac Book Air

I thought that would be mad cool - to get a mac book air and a couple of 27" monitors side by side - no go... cRack-Book Air - not enough RAM for running vmware reliably they told me ... or you can get a Hosted VPS box with win 8 on it and run your IM software off that for $15 - $35 a month ... and run all your Mac - a - liscious stuff on yer mac only.

So I opted to hold tight and save pennies for a day when i can get the 27" iMac with enough ram to do it.

You could always leave your PC on the home net and control it from the mac via VNC

Parallel's is just one way, and works well with any Windows software thats compatible with the windows version you install.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro and it runs Parallels with Windows 7 like a champ. Make the switch you won't regret it!

    Hi There,

A few weeks ago I bought a new MacBook Pro 2011 model, 4gigs of RAM. I tried parallels and any windows7 program would work normally. I was even surprised how fast the MAC was running Windows 7!

Please note that you have to launch the virtual machine (takes 5-10 minutes did not clock it) then you can leave it on or suspend it. Once the virtual machine is active you just launch windows programs. They work in a window, it is transparent and damned fast.

I was impressed by this but more so impressed by the MAC approach to everything (so much stuff built in the OS and the included software is great too) I just love it!

I would say give it a try indeed you should be happy!

    All the best

    Jeff

I have used both Parallels and VM Ware Fusion to run Windows on my Macbook.

Personally, I prefer VM Ware Fusion. Fusion takes up a lot less space and launches and runs faster than Parallels. IMO, Fusion is more user friendly and it is super easy to copy and paste from the Mac side to the Windows side.

It is important to remember to install anti-virus software on the Windows side. I use the free version of Avast. About six months ago, I contracted a virus while on the Internet on the Mac side, but it did not manifest until I opened Windows. Nothing on the Mac side was affected, but I had to delete my virtual machine from Parallels and re-install everything on the Windows side.

Whatever platform you decided to use, you will so happy with your Mac you will never go back to a PC.

      Good Luck,
