What kind of route should a "beginner" take?

Right, so I'm not exactly new to the whole thing, just discovered I made more money out of adsense instead of affiliate sales. It really seems relatively more stable as a source of income, so I'm asking advice from you experienced warriors out there on how to start using adsense as a source of income.

For starters, I've purchased 100k blueprint as well as Xfactor. I have a site up currently that is earning about $1 per day (so slow!). So my questions are these:

1) How do I improve clickthrough rates?
2) How do I find profitable Adsense niches?
3) Should I build an authority site (as stated by xfactor previously) or many micro niche sites?

I'd appreciate any extra information!

If this helps: I have no trouble getting up rankings to number 1, pretty experienced in SEO. So the problem would be lying near the markets and stuff!

    1) Use a large banner under your title. It can also be near the top of the page. Don't overdo it. If it doesn't improve the CTR, nothing else will. Some markets just get more CTR than others. Focus more on traffic and quality, the rest will follow.
    2) Buyer/consumer driven markets are currently still profitable. For example, tech devices like PDAs, Mobile Phones, Tablet PCs, etc.....these are hot, because new models are always coming out.
    3) Both can work; both can also fail to make money. It's your call, but I would personally focus on few good sites. There are examples of people making a lot from one site, and others making money from many, small, sites.

    1) CTR is different for every website design/theme. Experiement and analyze different colors and placements to find out what works best for you!f
    2) Search keywords and you will probably be able to find a profitable niche. The Google Adwords keyword tool will give you an estimate of how much traffic a keyword recieves. Although, I have read you should divide that number by 1/2 to get the "real" stats due to innacurracy. Or create an ad to see how many impressions that keyword has!
    3) It is up to you. I would build an authority site because they have high earning potential in my view.

    1. Try multiple themes and adsense layouts. Track them over at least a few thousand visitors to see if one is better than the other. I usually make artisteer themes for my adsense websites because they somehow always convert best with that type of theme (it's not ugly nor beautiful, it just works).

    2. keyword research and experience of different markets (some markets have more ppl clicking).

    3. Both, ideally they should start as micro niche sites that can expand into bigger sites if they are making money.

AdSense is not a stable source of income. Haven't you read all the horror stories? Go for affiliate sales, not AdSense. Google eventually will screw you up... trust me.
