I have a website that just got ranked to position 3 on page 1 of Google out of 3 million+ results. WP site about 1 month old....

The problem is: the results only show on my computer. I cleared the history, cache - etc and it still shows position 3...great, right?

When I have other people (potential clients and friends) do a Google search for same term - it does not show up.

Is this typical? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Keywords get 3500 searches per month and 3.9 million results on Google for the term - - I did the research, they are good local biz KW's....my questions is: why does it show up on my computer on page 1 - and no one else?

The same thing happened to me...

Google is a lot smarter than you think, they will personalize your search if your logged into anthing that has to to with your google account, and they will also use other resources such as location to detect what the best result is for your keyword.

Worse comes to worse, try and do some more backlinking and maybe writing a couple more posts to get your site ranked a little higher.

Remember google loves LSI keywords aswell!!

    hope this helps

I just wanted to know why it shows up on my computer on page 1 -- my wifes computer page 10 and my friend 15 miles away - on page 8?

I can't get any higher than 3rd position on page 1 of 3.9 million results...?? OK --- 1st or 2nd....geez!

Just to clarify: The KW is the "city" + "real estate term" -

The problem is - when I call a potential "offline prospect" to sell advertising on this page 1 of Google - it may not show on his computer? How will I know?

      Thnx

Because I'm guessing it's a localized keyword and you're also getting personalized results. Clearing history and cache doesn't help with that. Use some type of rank checker to see the real rankings.

It seems you have got google account, and which is signed in, you are suppose to log out of your google account, and then try to search again, hopefully, you will get something different.

You could try the rank checker in A1 Keyword Research. It supports many different google country/language variations. (And you also don't have the Gogole cookie personalization problem) You do however still have an IP address that will/may influence results some. (But it's not as major influence when you define both Google domain country + language in search query.)
