Hi,

SEO can be a confusing topic for internet marketing newbies.

Personally, I've always believed it to be a black art...

All the more reason to hit it head on. All the more motivation
to get our websites to rank high in the search engines, right?

But how? Well...

I'm new to SEO, but I've done a ton of research. I think I know
how to take an idea, and turn it into a decent search engine
ranking. I've been accused of being a slacker...all theory, no
practice.

Whatever. I've been biding my time...and it's time to turn the
theory into results!

Here's the deal...

You can join me in a journey to Google's front page!

No strings attached, no optin, and no charge. Learn from a
fellow SEO newb as I apply what I've learned. Succeed or fail,
I'll write it as it happens...warts 'n all.

The plan is simple:

1. Market research
2. Keyword research
3. Grab a domain
4. Add a bit of content
5. Promote the domain, get backlinks
6. Test the market
7. More content/promotion/ link building.
8. Crossroads...Decision time.

    Hey, thanks for answering!

    Let me lay some cards on the table...I'm going to use some
    of the 30 Day Challenge techniques here, with a splash of
    Jeremy Kelsall & a dash of Zerofill Don.

    The former is totally free, the latter is even more of a steal.

    The reason I'm gonna publish my results is to prove that us
    newbies (I'm new to SEO) can achieve massive success just
    by following a simple set of rules.

    OK.

    I don't really encourage you to follow the techniques in 30 day challenge. SEO requires experiences and patients. It took me more than 2 years to figure out part of the pictures. But the point you mentioned there is a good start.

      Hi Terry,

      Sorry...I've been so immersed in my li'l project, I've been caught slacking.



      Anyway, I've hit on a 3 word keyphrase, which gets several hundred/or thousand searches a month (and has <100,000 "quoted" competitors).

      I've registered a domain name...the b@stards chose to make the exact .com keyphrase a "premium" domain name, so I added a word at the end.

      So far - one blog post, highly optimized, one squidoo lens...pointing back to my blog, both socially bookmarked to half a dozen 2.0 sites.

      Next up, a hubpage pointing back to my squidoo lens. Again, this again will be bookmarked.

      Right now, I'm sweating over a 'viral' video concept. Positive sweat, though!

        That's not your true competition.

        Go to google's preferences link at the top after you run a search, or before hand, doesn't matter. And set it to retrieve 100 results at a time. Then click the 10th link, the 100k results will be reduced to about 100-300 or so.

        It's those that Google feels is more relevant to your search query.

        Oi Steve, whats goin on? have you bailed out on this thred?

        Ill be upset if you have. I was keen to see how a SEO Newbie went at SEOing a site.

        If you reached your goal, you could have been the inspiration to millions of newbies that are having a go at SEO, hehe

        If you do decide to revive this thred, you might aswell just tell us the keywords and domain on here so we can all track your progress.

        P.S. you wont get any link luv from a hubpage or squidoo lense unless it has a high ranking score. They only dofollow the quality hubs and lenses
