What is the Panda update

I keep reading about the panda update but I have not seen any news on what it is about. Can somebody tell me what the panda update is about please?

    It was a Google algorithm update. You could call it Panda 1 and Panda 2.

    Panda 1 was released to the US.

    Panda 2 was then released to all the other Google data centers around the world.

    It targeted "spam sites" and "content farms", so many of the article sites took a major hit. HubPages was seriously effected, but now seems to be improving again. There's a big list of sites (I don't have the link, but it is in a Google Doc) and it shows percentage of impression losses per site, before and after the update(s). Huge percentages.

      You are right Tretrain. The main aim of Google Panda is to provide valuable and correct information to the searcher of Google.

    The panda update is Google's latest assault against spammers and low quality polluters of the internet. The new algorithm update thoroughly combs through content to ensure quality, uniqueness, and relevancy much more effectively than before.

    Panda wiped out a lot of traffic for big web 2.0 properties like hubpages and squidoo as well as article directories like ezine articles and articlebase. Some sites saw traffic drops of 30%+. The key takeaway is that garbage like autoblogs and spun un-readable content are becoming not only less effective but singled out and punished.

    A major update made by Google to rank the sites on removing low quality sites from the top of Google’s result pages. At same time this panda update would provide a better ranking for the sites that doesn’t have any copy content.
