It's always links.

But for a sniper site you're probably not going to have the type of content that is going to draw links. So get somebody to run some senuke blasts, or do some article submissions etc.

what a LOT of people seem to not realise is the more regular you put content on your site, the higher up in the rankings you go.

Although without a doubt backlinking is imperative for ranking, you can't rule out the content...

I'm going to give the answer than nobody likes to hear: BOTH.

Updating your content from time to time is pretty important. You don't need to go nuts. Maybe just a unique, keyword focused article or two a week. (If you're building a content site.)

I agree with you. Backlinks and content are same important. If you content is bad, people will leave away less than few seconds. If your pages do not have backlinks( promotion), your site will never read by people.

I will vote for backlinks. Of course your current content must be of some standard not some low quality duplicate content. Even you have very good content with no backlinks you will still not rank.

My experience, For a Sniper site Profile Backlinks work very well, they just make you shoot up and up and many of my customer's website jumped to page 1, they had sniper's website!

Everybody wants to be #1 whatever that means. But even when they get to the elusive #1 based on whatever they think that is... they still can't figure out how to make money.

Because links mean nothing and content means nothing.

What matters is matching user intentions to product/services and making damn sure you know how to create VALUE for your visitors... otherwise they just leave, #1 or not.

this is a case of long tail vs. money keyword.

We all want to rank #1 for our 1 main money keyword that has tons of search volume, and generally when it comes to getting that rank it is all about backlinks with keyword anchor text, and good optimized on page SEO.

BUT!

If you write rich long content on your site you open the door to the fruit dangling from the long tail keywords. You pick up tons of traffic from long tail terms that add up with every piece of new content you post.

In my opinion making a 20 page site each with 500-1000 words of unique quality content is much easier to bring in traffic than a 1 page sniper site. The 1 page sniper site can only bring in traffic based on its money keyword where the content rich site has about 20,000 words or more that can make who knows how many combinations of long tail keywords relative to your niche.

So the short answer my friend is both.

I would do both

Post unique, relevant and interesting content to your site, at least twice a month, this way your site will always appear fresh to the search engines.

And keep building backlinks from different types of websites like web 2.0 sites, blogs posts, video sharing sites, press releases, directories, forums etc. Not only from article directories.

Both are very much need for ranking any kind of keywords in major search engines.

First you need to build your site with good, quality and fresh keyword rich content in your site, and later you need to work for backlinks. So it is first the content which matters a lot. You can achieve good ranking sooner for long tail keywords and for the high volumes you need to work continuously to effect the rankings in SERP.

If you only have to win the SERP and the bounce rate is not imporatnt than we should go for the backlink. But as in the google is not the content is king then we go for the content. Often the content updation google keeps visitors happy and also pleased that our main objective. Conclusion and the content have won the game.

It's easier to say both.

But if you can only choose 1 for now, and you have also mentioned "low competition".. Answer is Backlinks. Period.

However, if you want MORE traffic in the long run, you're gonna need to add more posts aka content in there eventually.

Backlinks will make your site move. Content is good, because it will make other webmasters link back to you. At the end of the day, the main goal is to get anchor text backlinks pointing to your site.

Why not both? If you absolutely HAVE to choose, I would recommend links as well, but if at all possible, go with content AND links. You can have one article written, and spun and submit that all over the net with a program like SenukeX or Serpassist.

I vote for the answer of BOTH.

I mean seriously, if don't have any good back links or techniques for your site, no one will ever visit it. If you don't have a good content, no one will ever pay attention to what you're or worse, Google will ban you. For me it's always both. You have to attract (through your back links) them and make them feel good (through your content), website wise.

Backlinks and contents are both important factor in SEO.

When it comes to getting on top of google, you must do both. Backlinks from high PR websites will increase your page rank and make google think you are a top dog. I usually go only for PR 4 and higher and I try to get as many ".edu and .gov" backlinks as possible.

As far as content, you must write good content so more pages are indexed in google giving you a better chance to rank for a keyword. Also, what is cool about content is if you truley write good content ( not spun articles) other websites in your niche will link to you creating back links for you. Be sure to keep up your keyword density for your articles and produce good original content for your site. Another thing to remember is that you want to increase your page rank as well by posting new content every day or as much as you can. This may get old after a while but its worth it.
