H1 tag SEO question

I'm using the Google Sniper method doing affiliate marketing of physical goods (TV's, running shoes, power tools, etc.). I post several articles on the site's home page and use an H1 heading for each post (article). I wanted to check out the onpage SEO so I examined one of my sites using an online site that checks out onpage SEO. One of the (many) criticisms was that I had too many H1 headings and this would essentially be considered stuffing by Google. Should I simply have only one H1 heading at the top, or is this really an issue to be concerned about?

I would say just go for one if you can. If you have several heading with exactly the same text it could look very unnatural. You should only really need one to do the trick, so there is no real advantage to having any more.

Normally, yes, there should be only ONE [1] h1 tag on a page... Otherwise, the whole idea of headings and hierarchical layout of the content is lost.

yeh, just the one.. use H2's as many times as you like for the others... and put the title attribute in it too give it a HIGHLY related phrase.

  You should be using one H1 tag only else it somewhat undermines the whole concept of a "heading"
  
  Imagine writing an article with too many headings
  
  Wouldn't it appear spammy to you if you were Google ??

Not a huge issue, but yes, aim for one. More importantly, make sure your keyword phrase is in it/them.
