How do you rank YouTube videos on Google?

Hey,

So I've recently created a string of YouTube videos and was wondering how exactly do you have them ranked in Google when someone searches these keywords of my video.

Example:

The video is about "How to make meatloaf".

So when someone searches "How to make meatloaf" I want them to be able to see my video in the search results.

Is there a way to do this for FREE or do I need to Google Sitemap Plugin or anything else you's recommend will be GOLD!

Cheers,

Colin.

Hi Colin. My opinion is: Build your own online properties, and not those owned by other businesses, especially a billion dollar corporation, in this case...

    • You could upload your videos to YouTube.
    • Get the embed code.
    • Post it on a new page of your website or a new post on your blog.
    • Optimize the title of your page/post for your intended viewers first.then for search engines next.
    • Write a brief description of the embedded video and use your target keywords in the description.
    • Enter your keywords as the tags of your page/post.
    • Update and submit your sitemap.xml to Google Webmasters Tools.
    • Social bookmark your page with the embedded video.
    • Share your page and video to your FB friends.
    • Then: Build backlinks on contextually relevant pages top ranking in Google for your target keywords and heavily trafficked by people included in your target audience...

I disagree with akhidr for this one. You should use Youtube to send traffic to your website or squeeze page. If you do it right, your video will be featured at the top of Google.

You should try Traffic Geyser. Very nice tool and it only cost $1 to try for the first month.

I am agree with akhidr, If you want to rank up your video then you have to optimize it. You can promote your video by PPC or organic. For organic You should create a unique and Search engine friendly Title. And share your video on social networking site.

I have heard somewhere that commenting on other videos and getting your name out there helps you rank on Youtube. Naturally if your video starts getting traffic it will rank on Google. I believe what this person said is kind of what the person was talking about. Being active in the community will get you more subscribers, comments and likes. So this sounds about right.

So I'll need to develop my YouTube channel and get views in through that way, before Google will rank my videos? Is there a certain criteria that I need to reach in order for it to be ranked?

Ranking on google universal search results is definitely possible. The key here is distribution and keyword selection. I wrote a post summarizing a presentation about Video SEO by Marty Weintraub from Aimclear

I also wrote a report about video SEO a while ago. Feel free to download it for free:

Ranking "how to make meat loaf" will take more than just free methods.

I'm just being real with you.

Without even using any seo tools, I already know that exact match for those keywords are highly competitive from other authority cooking and chef websites.

      But, you're in luck.

I've found that ranking youtube videos can be easier at times, to rank than websites. If you know what you're doing.

But since you're asking this question and the other info you have provided, I know you do not have much experience with SEO.

To truly rank for those exact keywords, you'll need to spend a few dollars. It could be worthwhile maybe if your monetizing your site correctly.

Youtube vids have always been easier to rank than websites, like I already mentioned.

      1. Make sure your vid is longer than just a few minutes.
      2. Make sure your vid is an awesome and over the top tutorial video.
      3. Make sure you have those exact keywords that you're trying to rank for in your title and description. Make the description kinda long, not just 1 paragraph.
      4. Make sure you are providing a really good, thorough, and properly keyworded descritption.
      5. Make sure you do the regular free seo like social media and etc.
      6. Make sure you buy some links and maybe even pay for some seo services from places like fiverr, seo maximus, magic submitter type of links and even throw in some of your own.
      7. Make sure you pay even more on some paid and proven blog networks. These type of links are actually the most powerful. Use places like warrior forum special offers, fivver, seo clerks, the hoth, and from the black hat forum.
      8. Make sure you are throwing plenty of links from several resources. Don't just rely on just one source. This is to hide your footprints and for making it look natural.
      9. Make sure you aren't only using those specific keywords - How to make meatloaf. or Else, you will get detected from Google quite quickly and they'll know what you're up to.
      10. Make sure you create killer, creative, unique videos that are extremely entertaining. If you get this concept down, you'll get more traffic than you ever dreamed of just from 1 youtube vid. And people will link to you from many different sources online. This is actually free and will move you up in the ranks faster than anything else. Checkout some of your competitors, and observe what the top viewed videos in your niche are doing and being successful with. Then, put your own spin on what they are doing. - You don't need to reinvent the wheel here, but be unique - be you.

Be creative too. Like create an instagram account and facebook for cooking tutorials and start adding videos on cooking. Cooking meatloaf. But be creative and entertaining. This will lead to viral traffic which will help with traffic and seo purposes.

      Good luck.

P.S. I know what I'm talking about. I've been doing seo for years and know how to rank just about anything in the top 3 positions of Google. I've even ranked sites in the top 3 for the most lucrative keywords like "make money online" back in the day. But most importantly, believe in yourself on what you're doing and that you will make it in the top search rankings for your videos and then put in the work and you'll make it.

If the keywords you choose are not particularly competitive then backlinks alone would probably be enough to rank. Views and 'likes' or 'dislikes' count.

Youtube videos ranked in Google, typically do not require the same amount of backlinks as a website to rank. Atleast this is what I have experienced.

Include the keywords you chose within the video title, description and tags.

I managed to get around 20,000 views of one of my videos based on the earthquake in Japan due to KR alone.

Ive got some Youtube videos ranked on the 1st page of Google with no backlinks to them because the keywords aren't competitive.

Ive heard that pinging your video with pingoat and pingler, include the keyword your targetting in the name of blog is an effective way to get a video ranked on 1st page of Google.

    There is no specific criteria you need to rank. These will help;

    1. Build backlinks on edu forum profiles
    2. Do blog commenting for backlinks
    3. Use Viewet to increase your video views
    4. Social bookmark your videos on the best sites (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc...)

If there is already a video on 1st page of Google for the keyword then check how many backlinks they have using backlinkwatch. Although other factors such as the age of video effect the ranking so i don't think backlinks alone will outrank them in all cases.

Try to build some HIGH PR Do-Follow backlinks to your video using the keyword you would like to rank for. Write the keyword at least twice in your video page (in the title -> STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!!!) and also in the description

For example (if the keyword is "how to make SEO"), you should do something like this:

Title: A video tutorial that will show you how to make SEO for your website.
Description: SEO is very hard, but an effective way to drive traffic. (YOUR WEBSITE) will help you learn more how to make SEO for your website...

1/ How many keywords should we have on our Title and description?
2/ I have been building backlink for my video page on youtube, it's much more than my competitor (who is rank higher than my video page) but my video page was still staying on the same position, I don't know what is wrong.! It will be appreciated for your advise. Thanks

You want to have the keywords of what people are searching for in google and what they are searching for in youtube. just type in how to make meatloaf and see what comes after that. right now how to make meatloaf easy is in the top ten.

In addition go to keyword tracker and type in meatloaf and see what variations of meatloaf are searched for commonly. Then put those keywords in your you-tube listing.

You rank YouTube Videos the same way your rank Websites. It boils down to Relevant High PR Links. Before you could blast them with a bunch of spammy links and they would rank. Recently Google did an update an now youtube vids can trigger a penalty. As long as you do your SEO the right way, it will rank.

The same way you would rank a normal website. Build backlinks to your video using anchor text How to make meatloaf on sites with similar content. (Cooking sites, food sites, that sort of thing.)

YouTube is a super powerful domain which makes getting ranked for most longtail keywords a breeze, the problem is that because YouTube isn't as targeted as a niche site, YouTube won't rank for really hard keywords.

All advice is great but the most crucial method is utilizing Google hangouts when uploading the video. It is common knowledge Google hangouts rank much better and faster than videos uploaded in a standard way.

In order to utilize the ranking power of Google hangouts for a mp4 video you need to use WireCast and start a live event. That will give you a good boost from scratch. If you couple that with social backlinks and a dozen or so fake views for starters, you will be golden.

If the niche is more competitive however, PBN backlinks should come into play.

Agree on using Youtube as a way to drive traffic-think too often just because a site is a Google property people think it's the boogeyman. Youtube's a legit way to gain traffic.

Yes-use tags and a good description etc. Really, Youtube in my experience, ranks videos largely on engagement-how long people watch etc. That's a hard system to game.
