This website contacted me about a link exchange bragging about a page 5 rank. The site is only 8 days old, how is this possible. Should I avoid this?
www.distantwatch.com is this a scam?

That does seem odd. It could be the keyword. Their Alexa rank is 1.9million, which isn't terrible. I wouldn't do it, though. They have an 8-day old PR5 website and went out of their way to contact you. It might be a scam of some sort.

I don't think that could be possible, we havent had a PR update since January.

It is very easy to fake pagerank..

go to Google and type in Page Rank Checker, put in the URL and it will tell you if its fake.

      Cheers,
      Simon

I think you should stay on it. A PR 5 after only 8 days is impossible to achieve.

Looks like they're using a 301 redirect from another site. Try doing a Google search: info:distantwatch.com you'll see a different site. Which in itself isn't necessarily a scam, some people do it intentionally to boost PR for SEO. But with the amount of links on the page the PR 5 would be watered down somewhat.

  • If you put a site url in quotes it won't be linked thus you won't be giving them free backlinks.

Find out the real information about the site from different sources, and if convinced about their claim of pr , then proceed further. I also have doubt from what you have reported here.

Agree with the majority on here. It's a scam. Theres no way you can get PR5 in 8 days and even if you did you wouldn't know about it that quickly.

I also don't think that it is possible even if you are using a good keyword. Making your site to have that ranking is quite a hard task.

Always typing "site:domainname into google to check the site whether its pr is fake or not.

Its crucial if you want to buy high pr domain, since many people are faking the domain's pr to sell it for high price.

Stay well clear of things like this, mostly they are SCAMS!!!

The recent posts show a PR0 which is correct but I don't doubt that it was PR5 when Dmreed4311 was initially approached. They will have done this through cradle (.) com as stated by a few with a 301 redirect, get lots of people to pay for links, put them on the site then move the PR5 301 redirect to another site and repeat the process!!!

Looks like 2 companies fell for this as they are on the blogroll!!

Just to reduce the risk of being scammed I never take anything from a company that approaches me, I always find them myself or better still take a recommendation.
