Hi, I have built a wordpress affiliate site about a month ago and I promote a Clickbank product (health niche) on it. My domain is an exact match .com domain and my site is currently #6 for my main keyword which is get 4400 [exact] match search according to the Google Keyword tool.

I have 5-10 visits/day which is NOTHING. What would be the problem?
Only the first three places receive an appropriate amount of traffic?

I'm just curious what is your opinion...
#first page #page #site #traffic

How are you checking to see your rankings in Google? If you are constantly checking on your own computer and always clicking on your site then quite often Google will personalize your search results and show you those sites you are always clicking on higher up in the search results. There is a strong possibility your site is not ranking where you actually think it is.

Use a site like Scroogle Scraper to do a search and see where your site really is, without any personalized search history.

If it is actually at the #6 spot then you need to get it higher. Yes, Google tests have shown that the top 2 or 3 results get majority of the clicks on a search results page. The difference between being number 6 and number 2 can be a lot of visitors.

So keep working on building those backlinks so you continue to rise up those rankings. Also make sure your page title and page description (the ones that show up in the search engines) are enticing people to click on them. No one is going to click on your listing if you don't give them a good enough reason to do so.

Is that one reliable? Because if it is, then my site is ranking way the hell higher on certain keywords than I thought possible. Oh my. What delight. In which case I've to thank you for a great tool and a huge ego-boost. ;D

top 3 definitely get the most amount of traffic. If you have an adwords account I would sugest running a small ppc campaign for the same keyword phrase. You want your add to be just good enough to get on the first page, but not really uptimized to get clicks. Just check how many impressions the ad gets per day. This will give you a better idea on what kind of traffic the keyword is really getting. Just run if for a few days then take it down.

As WillR pointed out, it could be you are not showing up where you think you are. use the tool as advised or clear you cookies and cache. then try and search again. don't click on your link though.

Disable Google Webhistory. That'll correct your rankings. You're probably not #6.

I don't think so that your page rank is 6 as your website traffic is 5 to 6 visitor per day!You should use SEO Quick software to check your current page rank.

Well this is not that strange at all. If the top 3 sites provide a great answer to the search query then most people won't go further than that. I've seen tons of keywords with over 20k searches where I got almost no traffic at positions 5+, well maybe 10-15/day. Of course there are exceptions, like when people are looking for product reviews they tend to dig deep. Anyway, the solution is to just keep working towards #1.

Well in my opinion, you are not going to get much more traffic until you get into the top 3 positions. You said the keyword gets about 4400 exact searches per month so that is about 4400/30 = 146 searches per day.

Some people say that the #1 spot gets 40% of all search traffic and in this case that would be a bout 40/100 x 146 = 58 roughly. So about 88 searches are left to split among you and the other 4 sites above.

So you see why you are only getting that amount of traffic?

yesacapow - thats an eye opening observation. 4400 sounds big - not so much when its broken down daily then divided by 10X first page results.

Sounds about right a general guesstimate for #6 would be around 4% of the total number of searches:

      (scroll down a bit)
How Much Money is a Top Google Ranking Worth to Your Business?

Which works out to around 300 visitors, or around 10 visitors a day.

If you're using Googles tool or Wordtracker they both go back 12 months to get the average, not the previous month so the results are probably skewed. Depending on your niche and the keyword the results can be skewed even further by the software queries like MarketSamurai, MicroNicheFinder, etc.

If you use other forms of traffic generation the numbers could get higher, but if the searchengines provide the bulk of your traffic you may want the search numbers to be a little higher. JMO

If you're just checking using the Google Adwords keyword tool (without logging in using your Adwords account) you're getting a 12 month average of user queries for the keyword.

If you haven't already, you should log in and download the CSV file to see how many searches the keyword got in the last few months. The keyword could be on a downward trend and might be getting less searches than you think.

Yeah, those spots about 2/3rds of the way down the page are actually the worst for clicks.

Oddly enough, the very last entry (#10) usually does better than that lower middle area since people typically scroll all the way down faster than they can read.

You might be better off going after some "long tail" keywords once you rank on the first page. For example, if your keyword is "health tips", you might be able to hit #1 easier for "best health tips", "top health tips", "free health tips", "tips for health" and the like.

The difference between ranking 2nd and 6th is the difference of being above the fold and below the fold using newspaper terms. You always want to be above the fold and for gogle the means being in view without having to scroll. That is why the top positions get more clicks. Just keep working at it till you get to number 1
