Do backlinks help your site's ranking?
I am pretty certain they do but i just wondered.

But by backlinks do you mean links that lead to a page on your site on a different site? for example if i posted my site's link here then that would count as a backlink?

If it does then how much does this increase your site's ranking?
Also where else could you post backlinks apart from forums or maybe if you make a youtube video and link it? I have heard of posting comments on blogs but i do not understand this, Where can I post backlinks daily that will get my site traffic, obviously i would only post links on site's that are connected to my site's subject so i can get targeted traffic, but where could i post these?
Thanks and sorry if i dont really make sense

Yes - backlinks help improve your site's rankings, as they show the search engines that your content is valuable enough for some other website to refer back to it.

However, there's a lot that goes into the strength of a backlink, including things like PageRank, domain age, nofollow/dofollow, etc. You can create backlinks by leaving comments on popular blogs (to do this, just scroll to the end of a blog post in your niche to find the comment form), commenting in forums, posting your link to social bookmarking services and so on.

Do a search for backlinking strategies here on the Warrior Forum - it's a very in-depth topic that's good to learn more about

Yes, backlinks help to increase your SEO rankings. For example, a backlink would be your signature that links back to your site.

To increase you rankings for a particular keyword, just link on the keyword instead of the raw url.

Multiple factors will boost your SEO. First of all, you need atleast 1 link to be indexed by search engines, or you can manually submit, but with only that, you won't even get ranked.

The age of your domain is another huge factor, along with what words are in your domain. If you keyword is: yellow bananas, and you owned yellowbananas.com, your rankings would shoot up!

Google has its own algorithm to count the number of backlinks for a site or blog. It counts for high quality, top domains backlinks from a same niche. So naturally your backlink would be less in number when compared to yahoo search engines. Google also shows backlinks from other niche.
