for some reason I have it in my head that I have to back link every single article I post to gain decent amount of traffic which if it is true then that means I would have to wait 2-3 weeks to rank each blog post to #1. I am trying to set up a personal review/news type blog but I feel like I have to backlink every single blog post I make which can take months to rank every article to the top 3 spots in google. Is there another way I can get good traffic rather than back linking every single article? Do I just back link the important ones and do some internal linking??

Well I guess you should be concentrating on your homepage for getting more and more backlinks. Also if you find some site related to one of the articles you might have written on your site, then you can link it to the article. After you get all the backlinks for your homepage, you can link your homepage with various articles by inserting a popular articles widget

I don't understand, there are so many keywords I want to rank my indivual articles for (one article per keyword) and what is a popular article widget? never seen it. All of my knowledge about seo has just been thrown out the window

Here is where I am confused. Say that i have a website www. dogtraining . com right and i have several targeting long tailed keywords i.e yorkie dog training, puppy dog training, border collie dog training etc... if i backlink using those keywords as anchor text to my home page how are the web surfers, browsers, buyers w/e you want to call them, going to find those articles when they land on my home page if i rank #1 in google? wouldn't I want to spend more time backlinking my articles so that websurfers land on what exactly they are searching for?
