I have a quick seo question. Lets say i wanted to make a liver disease niche site:

Is:
www. liverdiseaseinfo .com or www. aboutliverdisease .com
As good as:
www. liverdisease .com

"Liver disease" being the keyword i wanted to rank for

or would i be totally gimped from the start against www. liverdisease .com

Just an example not my actual niche

don't stress about it. Keywords in the domain are not that critical but in your case it does seem like you are highly focused on particular key words according to your example.

Reduce it to a domain that is easy to remember and type and just try to keep your keywords in it or subsequent URLs that can cover the keywords also. The only time I would say to really stress a domain name is when it is a feeder domain meaning that it is specifically designed to rank for specific keyword set that drives traffic to a main site.

All too often do I see people stressing over keywords in the domain names... it's just not that important anymore. Pick yourself a domain... And then get to the rest of your campaign because that's where the Battlefield lies.

Well obviously the EMD (exact match domain) is going to hold more weight but it doesn't really matter as far as the total picture goes.

Having an EMD is a great boost in the rankings but doesn't mean your doomed if you don't have an EMD.

Me personally I will try to get the .com first and if it is not available then I will try the .net and finally the .info.

If all of those are gone I will go back to the .com and enter some additional words at the "END" of the keywords and try the .com , then .net, and .info again.

having your keywords as close to the www. is going to help.

But in the end the links and content are going to make you or break you.

Sorry, I disagree with this 100%. Keywords in domain are still very important. Is it going to instantly put you on page #1 for your term - obviously not. Is it going to give you an edge, definitely.

Time and time again exact match domains prove easier to rank than domains with the keyword plus added stuff. But if you can't get an exact match try and get your keyword in there with as little else as possible. Just try adding an x to the end or use dashes.

On-page SEO is your foundation, do it right and everything is easier.

You are probably experiencing this because it sounds like you know what you're after and how to get it. So you have more going for you than A keyword rich domain when you go after a search term.

Of that there is no doubt... But as the other person posting mentioned I would not sacrifice an easy to type .com over a keyword specific .net. which leads me back to my original point which is the domain is not nearly as important as it used to be. Is it ideal... sure. But over time site performance statistics will outweigh domains with planted keywords.

I think there is plenty of evidence for this for any search term or else nearly every domain on page 1 would have your search terms in it. sure there are a lot more variables on saying is don't stress out over a domain especially at the expense of it being easy to type

No, it's not as good as the perfect EMD. However, you need to analyze your competition and see where they are weak in SEO. Maybe they don't have title tags optimized, or maybe their keyword density is lacking. Use their weakness to your advantage by doing exactly what they did to reach the top rankings plus more.

Thanks for the replies actually i want to make a broader type of niche site.

So i guess my example is a little flawed it should be liverdiseases and not liverdisease

Basically i want to make a site with all "insert some broad health niche here" information on it.

but as long as my domain contains the keyword and its close to www. i should be all right? i know my competitors will have an edge

Edit: also what about www. liverdiseases-info .com vs www. liverdiseaseinfo .com Does it matter SERP vice?

I think EMD is a good way to go. At the company I work at I have 12 EMD sites, all are on the first page of Google and the other two at 12 and 17. But.... in your case I would suggest you be more specific. Liver disease is way to general, what exactly are you offering or trying to accomplish. If you say liver disease info I'd say you are going to have a tough time competing against the likes of WebMD. Find really specific keywords related to liver disease and then build sites around those.

Although having your exact keyword in the domain has SEO benefits it's not the only ranking factor and according to Matt Cutts Google is looking to reduce these benefits.

A broader niche site is what is known as an oxymoron.
