Build My Rank Live SEO Experiment

Edit: I've been notified by John the owner of BMR that posting my domain
could lead to competitors or Google reverse engineering my sites backlinks
which could harm the BMR program. I agree with this so I've edited this thread
and taken out my domain name and keyword. I'll still update the thread with
how many posts I've made to BMR and the sites ranking.

Hey Warriors

So I've been hearing a lot about Build My Rank lately and have decided to give it a go!

I've started a new site and am going to use BMR exclusively to see how high I can get it to rank for it's keyword.

The domain is bran new with zero backlinks.

The keyword gets 33,100 global exact match searches per month and is quite competitive from looking at the first page of Google.

-There are 3,240,000 results for the keyword.
-An allintitle search brings up 647,000 results
-The top 10 competitors page rank range from pr3-7
-Googles own page is on the front page of Google although it's in position 10.
-There are a few well known authority sites on the first page.
-All of the pages on the first page of Google have backlinks to them ranging from 141-6,129 according to SEO Quake.
-All of the websites on the first page have quite a lot of indexed pages.
-The adwords value is around $6.50 which means it's quite an advertised on keyword.

If I was to rate the competitiveness of this keyword I'd say it's about a 7 out of 10. So not mega competitive but definitely not easy.

So yeah I'm only going to be using BMR on this site and plan to submit the max 10 articles per day to it.

I thought I'd post this experiment here because I know that warriors (including myself) love these sort of live experiments and I hope that you all find it helpful.

I'll start posting 10 article per day tomorrow and will keep you all updated.

Will Cooper

Update 6th May 2011

Thanks for starting this thread. I think case studies are great as they are probably the most objective method of gauging the performance of certain SEO prodcuts/services.

I'll be coming back to see how it goes!

Absolutely. I think testing is something severely underplayed in the SEO community. Instead of trying things out yourself, most just rely on a selective few senior memebers are "gurus" for advice on everything. But testing can be a little costly in terms of both money and time, and I understand why most people (including me) would do this.

I have a ton of ideas that I would like to test, but I just don't have the resouces to do them.

Anyway, hope your experiment will prove insightful! Good luck!

Thanks mate. I've used up my 10 bmr trial posts on another domain and it's all pretty simple and easy to use, plus the posts were all submitted to pr2-4 websites and are all indexed so I'm pretty impressed so far.

But what really matters is results so I thought this would be a cool little experiment that Warriors would enjoy.

      Thanks for watching!

Yeah I've heard good things about BMR so far and I just had to check it out. I'm glad you like the experiment!

The only things is it may be a bit tough writing 50 posts per day for BMR!!!!!

I've added 5 domains. I suppose I could outsource but I want to do it all myself.

Is it 10 posts per day period or 10 posts per day for each domain? If it's the latter, that's a nice deal. I was always under the impression it was only 10 per day, no matter how many domains.

I'm actually getting ready to jump on BMR myself. Heard way too many positive results that people have gained from it, so I figure it's worth a shot. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread to see how your results fair throughout the experiment though

It's 10 posts per day per domain which seems to be a good deal
for $59 a month. I've added 5 domains which is 50 posts per day.
You can outsource it to them for $2 per post but that comes to $100
a day which is too much to be spending on an experiment for me at
the moment so I'll do it myself. 50 posts shouldn't take longer than
3 hours a day or so. But yeah I'll be posting the max 10 posts per day
so hopefully I see good results.

So this is day 1. I submitted 10 posts to BMR.

It took me about an hour to write the 10 posts. So not too bad.

I have heard great reviews of BMR but the content you post has to be 100% unique - i tried some heavily spun content during a trial and they were rejected. I thought it was a max of 30 links per day (1 link per 150 words). That is alot of content to write if you want to maximize the subscription. There is another service called Linxboss whereby they insert your links within their own unique content (i think about $157/mo) but unless you write your own content, it is tons cheaper than outsourcing.

It's always great to see actual case studies in action! Since you took down your site and main keyword, you should let people know how competitive it is. How many searches, the Adwords value, how many AllinTitle and AllinURL results, etc. I saw it before you deleted it though

I've been using BMR as part of a much larger experiment putting it directly against three other backlink services. Check it out here: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...nt-2011-a.html

Good points. I've added a bit more info about the competition for the
      keyword.

If I'm completely honest I will be surprised if BMR helps this site get
to the top for this keyword but I just wanted to test it on a keyword
that wasn't easy to see what BMR is capable of.

I will check out your experiment too and thanks for checking out mine.

I use BMR as well and it completely dominates local listings and steadily builds on global keywords. These are low to medium competition keywords...though I've started to finally see movement on one keyword that has 18k exact match searches.

As far as I am concerned, it's worth the hefty price - especially when you have dozens of projects you are trying to rank for.

However, it should be just one cog in your SEO machine...relying on just one tactic is foolish at best.

Well, I finally went ahead and took the BMR plunge myself. Did the trial for 10 free links and going to cancel today to order the full-deal at $59 per month. The system itself is super user-friendly and very easy to use. Nothing beats getting your link on homepages with actual PR.

I am also using this for a fairly new site that I'm working on carefully, ensuring that on-page SEO is as good (if not better) than off-page SEO. Trying to rank for a variety of keywords, so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks (BMR is only one of many SEO tactics I'm using, though).

Like I said before, I'll be following your progress on this. I've heard too much good stuff about BMR to NOT pass it up. $59 per month for a slew of actual high PR links seems like a worthy investment in my book.

I have been using BMR for just over a month and have some great results, I can also confirm I have been linking to inner pages for specific keywords and this has worked really well in a couple of cases.

I'm not sure about people liking the interface, i think its unintuitive at times and you can go round in loops looking for things, like paying for posts to be written. And there is another little grip, the post that the BMR writers produce are sometimes pretty dreadful, yet if you write a post with even a slight grammatical mistake its rejected.

These are really only minor grips as on the whole I think its excellent.

I like BMR but yes I have found the posts written by BMR writers to be absolute rubbish.

I outsource them to freelancers but writers seem to deteriorate with time, I guess they are bound to get sick of writing on the same keywords.

Yes it's called 'writer's fatigue' - I rotate my keywords through my writers adn it seems to work as a way to maintain the quality.

Depends on what your time is worth to you. For a lot of folks the 60-90 minutes it would take to write 10 BMR posts isn't worth it because they can have someone do it for $15. Plus it's hard for some folks to consistently produce content. Just depends on what you like to do I suppose.

From the description of the site in terms of competitiveness, it sounds like you are going to need a bit more than BMR to get this site on page 1... Unless you are talking about an Exact Match Domain.

EMDs do not work the miracles that they used to, but they still give you a little bit of a bump in the SERPs, for sure.
