Exact Match Domains: Harder to find

it is becoming harder but it pushes you to be more creative I think, I've come up with some great names for some of my sites simply because I couldnt have the one I wanted. It's the catchy names that work. But yeah, no more scoring purely through a site name really, SEO is becoming much more important (it always has been but you know what i mean).

Easiest way is to write 20 ideas on paper and head to google trends to test them out

Yes it is more difficult - also as Ettienne said SEO is moving away from exact match domains being a MAJOR factor however I agree it can help a bit to start you off in the right direction.

Have you tried splitting up the phrase or product name like:

product-name.com?

Yeah, no kidding.. I'm always amazed when I see really long-tail keywords with 300 searches/month or whatever already being taken. It's gotten out of hand, and frankly I won't miss the EMD advantage when it's gone. It's just silly when you see domains like:
kitchenaidprofessional350standmixerreview.com

Stop looking for exact search domains. Most people who are using those have killed it with MFA's, and not surprised when you end up buying one that is opened for sale just to find that it was banned by Google in the past.

I remember purchasing one and realized that it's banned after 2 weeks. No matter how many times I filed for it to get re-indexed, it didn't work at all. I told them that I purchased the domain brand new, but nope... no help.

Exact match domains don't matter as much in Google anymore. Yahoo/Bing still love them though.

I still do good with emd's. I dont just make them a one page site, I build out at least 10 pages/articles using low competition lsi keywords. This has been working well for me.

EMD's are likely always going to have a place in search engine algorithms, I wouldn't dismiss them completely. They certainly don't give the advantages that they used to though.

In the past few weeks I've found some great exact match domains based on topics I am interested in, some of which had low competition and around 15,000 exact searches a month.

However, don't be put off by exact match because phrase match is also good if you pick a domain that can be used with multiple niche phrases. I found one that gets over 670,000 phrase match searches per month and it ranks highly for our chosen long tail keywords. That's why "review" sites do so well, because people want to know what people think about a product or service before they buy.

Although these sites are good, its still better to pick a domain with good keywords, but create an authority site, for example on the alternative health and spirituality niche that I am mainly interested in. Over time I will build it up adding great content, articles and videos and profit from reviews of specific remedies and food products that have good affiliate programs. Furthermore, you can write a good ebook or members area filled with your own videos and generate revenue from that also. It also helps if you can create your own web store and sell physical products either by drop ship or from your own stock.

Just a little tip, when developing your niche sites understand that your site ranks differently in different brower clients. Some of my sites rank #1 on Google on Internet Explorer but rank 5th in Firefox and 7th in Chrome. Personally I'd work on your Firefox rankings because it is the most used browser above IE and Chrome.

EMD is good for quick wins especially with niche marketing, Amazon products etc. but imo, you're just "wasting" your seo efforts because you can't build upon your efforts as such.

I used to do EMD but not anymore. Pick a niche with many products under a generic keyword and then build pages. One of the niches I'm in has 50k combined searches with 508 keywords. I'll be happy with just 10% of the searches.

To find the exact match domain names, you should check the competitive keyword phrases of 2 or 3 words and combine them to name your domain. However it will need more research and time. Sometimes we get better names than we were going to search for.

Having an exact match domain is an advantage but if you find a keyword you like, surely you can come up with a domain name that has that keyword in it. Add guide, tips or whatever to the end. It's not going to make that huge of a difference now since Google is not giving the exact match such a heavy weight.

Google MAY devalue EMDs, but this doesnt stop the fact that someone just sold "losebellyfat.com" and got $18k for it..ONLY for the domain.

Looking through various SEO forums, people are incredible hyped about EMDs...in fact i often get the impression that for webmasters and site builders the DOMAIN NAME is all what counts.

IMO, finding EMDs is not hard, the problem is to find GOOD EMDs

Some 3-4 word combo which barely gets 1200 searches/month is not interesting for me personally.

i don't think it's getting hard to find at all! most of the times when i do keyword research for people. i almost always find them exact keywords from the research. mostly .net TLDs. but people don't like it much. the prefer .com. but those don't mean anything to me.
