Just wanted to see if we could see some different ways people go about building link camaigns and how they maintain them.

Do you have a checklist and what does it entail? Consistency, diversity of links, whatever else you might add that you have found helpful.. This might be helpful for newbies trying to incorporate some structure into their link building.

The most important fact about link building is the consistency and frequency, for me, i build article backlink 2 weeks after my article goes live. You may be interested in the article directory list below:

Thanks for the list. I also took a look at your do follow blog list. A quick question... When you make a comment on one of these blogs, do you use your real name or do you use a keyword? Or is just getting that link not with your anchor keyword ok?

It depends on the blog. Many (most?) blogs won't approve your comments, unless it's an auto approve blog, if your name is just a keyword or phrase. Ex: "Dog Training Tips"

I've found that you can meet in the middle and use your name + keywords. This usually improves your chances of getting your comment approved. Ex: John @ the Dog Training Tips Blog.

Getting back links through network resource is very lengthy but the best way to back link is unique content posting. If your content is good and based on your product and you are following all editorial guidelines then articles submission is the best way for link building

I wouldn't say I use any new link building methods, they're pretty much the same as a lot of other peoples -

    Forum profile links
    Forum signature links
    Blog commenting
    Directories - Article/blog/business/RSS feed etc
    Press Releases
    Social Bookmarking
    Link wheels

It seems like guest blogging works very well for some people.

And great content is always going to get you links.

Also, some people use software for blog commenting and such, some make it more obvious that their comment is spam than others, some people will list keywords etc, which is a big give away. I have been getting a lot of spam on my site recently where people are writing very generic comments that don't relate to the content, but can be loosely related to pretty much any blog.

The problem with people doing this is that it's very obvious in most cases that it's spam, but it also hurts them too, especially since my site is at least in most cases not related to their niche.

So I think the key is to post meaningful comments on blogs related to your niche.

The same goes for links in forum sigs, and when I see these people spam on forums just for back links in sigs, I think it can hurt their credibility too - if you post meaningful comments and contribute to the community there would be a lot more chance of people clicking on the link.

So to summarise, the main 3 factors for me in link building that play a big part in the overall strategy are -

Quality of content (content is king)

Relevance (gaining backlinks from sites within my niche or that are closely related)

Site Authority (typically high PR sites and .edu & .gov domains are best to concentrate on so I believe, although some would say that PR isn't everything.)

I like Forum participation and blog commenting. Both are very effective and I am very happy using this technique.
