Google messing with [external] keyword tool again

Did anyone notice lately...
Big G has been busy at work...
trying to change things again
and shake it up a bit....

Did you notice that when you go to
googles external keyword tool
[the one you use without signing on],
the number of columns you can now
select are just handful.....

Wonder what their thinking is....?

A few years back... Google used to be
the championing the cause of
democratization of information?

Guess they had a change of heart?

Does anyone know why they would have taken that away?

  • I noticed this as well, and a few times when I tried to click on "Local Monthly Searches" to sort the values, I was prompted to login to my AdWords account. There was no pop-up, it just redirected me to the AdWords login page. The sorting feature is back to normal now, but the Avg. CPC option is still missing, at least from where I sit. I have seen other reports of it being missing, but some people can still see it.

    • Its missing for me too here in California...unless ofcourse you log into your adwords account......

I guess regional caching at work or may be google is segmenting their users too.....it only makes sense that BIG G is probably doing split testing.
  • You can still find the CPC. Be sure that you sign in/login to Google Keywords tool. Then go under "Sorted by Relevance" and you will find "Approximate CPC" in the dropdown.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I also forgot to mention that you then need to go under "Columns" and in the dropdown box, check off "Approximate CPC" and then hit "Apply." Hope that helps! It is not gone. It is there.

    • huhhh... do you see CPC column even when you are not logged into your adwords account?
  • It's not there for me as well. Need to log into my adwords account to see it.

Reasoning for this is because of mass keyword tools out there such as market samurai, micro niche finder, niche finder etc...It gets it's results from google's kw tool and google does not like this.

This also explains why some kw tools are either buggy or not working at all.

    • This mystery just explains a few things as to why these 3rd party tools are not working as promised...

But there is a lot more to that.
  • Its there. Just now I checked it without logging into adwords account and its there. I'm from India.

    • I think Google is either doing a split test or they might be rolling out the changes geographically...

Its only a matter of time.... before they take it away for good globally.

    • Also had to log into my Adwords account in order to see all columns and in particular the cpc one.

Bummer for those useful scraping tools, MNF and MS ....

    • Simon... where you are from...

There are two others from India and one sees it and one doesn't
  • Be sure that you sign in/login to Google Keywords tool. Then go under "Sorted by Relevance" and you will find "Approximate CPC" in the dropdown.Best of luck.... Hope this helps

    • Hey you are from India tooo right... are you not able to see the CPC column w/o logging in?

There is another user KRISH who is from india too and he is able to see it w/o logging in.

Big G is getting more mysterious... or they must be just losing it.

It bet you its the latter.
  • I checked again today, and it still works for me (Canada). I just have to login to my Google Adwords account first, and then follow my directions, as I described above.

    • Kim, so now we know that Big G has changed it for North America...

I would lve to hear anyone form Europe has seen the same behaviour?
  • Now you have to login to get that working fine.
  • i think they are doing some good though as cpc is only for advertisers while publisher getting info of kw traffic is enough
  • Just log in first
