Hello Everyone,
One of my website(watch free movies online : Free movies hub, watch full movie online), was ranked on the first two pages for major movie related generic keywords untill Thursday, On the friday morning all of sudden , It went to nowhere from top 20. I really don't have any clue whether it's google dance or penalty. Please suggest
Thank You
Kim

  • Exact thing happened to me - on Friday morning. My website gets zero traffic.
  • I haven't see any significant changes to ranking, but I read that others had reported a pr update, so perhaps google is updating.

    • yeah probably...because that time I was supposed to post a blog at blogspot and it was undergoing site maintenance. I haven't had that for awhile...no that would be the first I experienced it having a site maintenance. now it's ok though
  • If you haven't submitted alot of links in one shot then it probably isn't a dance. Sounds to me like a drop in ranking because you stopped backlinking to it.
  • How long had you been ranking well? Alot of people think they are ranking for something when it's truly only temporary from an influx of links seen as news in Google's eyes

    • I had been ranked well since last 4 month and i used to do white hat SEO online , That's why it's bit astounding for me, I still couldn't find any reasonable logic behind this mishap

  • I think the 'dancing' is all normal, but it'll get stable in some days (no clue to the time), all you gotta do now is to build backlinks, no many but stable on daily basis. I think it's just like, Google wants to make sure where to place your URL.

I experienced the same like this before, but after I just left it that way (even didn't touch the website) then it ranked well there. I think backlinking them will be better than leave it and even not to touch the site. =)
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • How old is your site? People need to realize, this is how the game works... sometimes you drop, sometimes you go back up... google updates its algorithm and tweaks it constantly... you are always an update away from losing your position.

When you do SEO... it isn't about avoiding mistakes, everyone is going to make them... what matters is how you respond and react.

    • I cannot believe that this is happening to everyone. My site has literally been wiped off the face of the internet.

Nobody who whose existence depends on an internet based business would be able to survive if that happened constantly.

My site is 12 months old.

    • I understand that my friend but i guess moving from #15 to #578 can left anybody astounded, That too just over a night

    • I agree. You can never maintain your ranking because Google is updating rapidly.

  • Hope your site comes back. It's possible it's just a temporary thing.

    • Did you guys notice any search algorithm update during recently?
I am wondering if google did any tweak
  • It may be the effect of Google's new algorithm. Panda Algorithm is very strict and it's main intense to keep quality. So if you want to be stable that you will have to do the quality work for your site.

    • This is happening to a lot of people who don't have enough quality content and backlinks to pages which have traffic going to them. forum link building and directory submission plus links on low quality article sites are all losing their value. It's time for an overhaul of the old SEO and content publishing approach...for all of us
  • Maybe it is a google dance, it's happens every quarter of the year, I can only suggest is to keep building links.

    • I don't see any duplicate content on my pages, So I don't think it's panda
  • Your site may be affected by Farmer's Algorithm or Panda..
  • Google makes changes in its SE algorithm all the time, sometimes everyday. Give it some time, maybe your site's ranking will be back after a week or two..

    • Thanks a lot friends for valuable suggestions, I am keeping fingers crossed
  • I also have encountered the same situation
I do not know how to solve it
So I chose to give up

    • I also experienced the same problem last week in the morning. Till the next morning i was assured it may be Google dance so need not to worry but it was not retained and i was now little bit tensed but next day when I checked I automatically got the ranking as same as earlier. May be you also facing the same problem! I wishes good luck for you.
  • If you haven't done anything which can be counted as black hate than why are you afraid from Google Penalty?
Panda update is not a name of one change but, it is a series of changes which Google will bring to hit the low quality spammy sites. May be you are also a victim of the series of changes.

    • Same thing happened to one of my sites. It's a new site. Never had this happen before in my history of making sites. I've had rankings slip and such, but never a complete slash and burn. Very curious.
    • Frankly speaking, I have no idea what's going on with my site

There are no malware, I can see all the pages in google.I guess Big G is just hating my site
  • I´d suggested to wait a few more weeks to see if the site comes back (the google dance sometimes causes sites to dissapear for a while - no idea why).

If it doesnt come back within the next month, you should probably check if you have "spammed" your links too much or maybe have some type of malware on the page.
  • First thing, how many old time your site, if site is new than usually keyword ranking up-down in SERP's, but if your site is old as more than three year than you will be changes any on pages or check your old back links.

    • @KIMSEO, You mentioned that you don't have any duplicate content, but...do you have content that is too similar on your site? Meaning, do you have some pages that are a lot like other pages on your site? You may want to consider that you might have "on-site duplicate content". I'm not even talking word for word copies, but more on the latent semantic lines of thought here.

If you have Google Analytics running on the site, you can get a quick view of what pages are receiving the most search love from Big G. I've been doing this analysis on my sites for a long time and continuously tightening them up a bit either with a 301 redirect from similar content that isn't getting much traffic to the page that is receiving traffic, or actually adding more verbiage to existing content while still maintaining SEO relevance for that particular page. In other words, not just adding a bunch of words as filler to make the article longer, but increasing the quality of the article. I shoot for 600-700 words per article.

I saw something very similar to what I've been doing written by someone over at SEOMOZ. I'll try to find that again and post the link in this thread. It's a bit different, than what I do, but should yield very similar positive results.

  • Same happened to one of my site as well. Google is trying to kill me

    • If you're dancing around, it has nothing to do with waiting a day, or two, or even a week. It can take a month, it could take a couple months. People think the google dance is just when you build more links or have a new site. It is more related to the data centers updating the index. They used to have it set up so you can see where you rank while they were updating, and when you were "dancing around". Unfortunately they don't allow it to be seen anymore.
  • your site is being affected by the Panda update. No offense, but your site offers no real value it is what google calls a "thin affiliate site". You have 300 pages of movies all with the same affiliate link pointing out to MegaFlix

If you don't bounce back (ruling out the Google Dance)

What you have is a thin affiliate site. It's not about the duplicate content, it's about the limited to no content in comparison to your outbound linking.

Either consolidate your outbound links onto one page, have the user click through to "watch the movie" and have them land on one page which then pushes them to the money site....

    or

add more content to each video, not just a youtube video, but maybe some content created from the IDMB of the movie.

    • your suggestions are valuable dear. What do you think ? Which would be better, adding an extra page between my site and megaflix or adding more content on movie pages?
  • If your still indexed in the top 100 go here and type in your url and your targeted keywords and see where you rank:

    mikes-marketing-tools.com/ranking-reports

if your site doesn't show then it may be pentalized if its on the 3rd page then its probably google dancing

Thank me if anyone found this helpful
  • It's the new google algorithm updates, it happens all the time.
Don't worry, your site should move up as long as it isn't against the rules of the new algorithm.
For instance, the most recent ones makes low quality backlinks really low priority.
  • google is very difficult to predict, my manual blog getting dropped too
  • This may caused by the Google panda updates due to these updates the duplicate content and many more things are now get remembered by the Google and it tends to lose ranking.

    • Whats the possibility of bouncing back?
  • i also have a TV related niche and it dropped as well, could be cause of the panda update, guess it depends on how google perceives your site in terms of content that they deem worthy which is mostly inaccurate on their part
