finding the right keywords

I'm having trouble finding GOOD keywords to use for my site in progress. I've been around the male modeling industry for a while and I want to do a site to sell a small ebook on proper fitness and dieting. I've been looking at doing my searches through google adwords keyword tool. Some things come up as huge hits, like male model. Once you throw in a word like workout it becomes substantially less popular. Will that really hinder my results? What other ways can I go about figuring out what will work for me? Id rather like to figure it out BEFORE I spend the money making my site live. Thanks!

  • Why are you targeting 'male model' for fitness and dieting. Is it a specific target audience? Why not 'fitness and dieting' related keywords? Care to elaborate?

    • That is a good question and I'll try to answer it, because I've asked myself that many times.

      1-Male models, especially ones for Calvin Klein, have a distinctive body figure that many people want. There is different training involved in getting a very lean body vs general fitness. If I google "build muscle" one of the first thing I see is "how I gained 34lbs of muscle in 4 weeks". This type of training gives a very different body style.

      2- because it's such a specific body type (small and lean), I feel like it can be marketed a lot easier since there would be less competition. The general fitness sector looks very competitive and I heard the only way to really succeed was to stand out in some way.

  • i am 100% rely on Adword tool to get kw predict and i put 100% trust on it. What i can say is only google can tell you and adword tool is the perfect that i ever used
  • what parameters do you use in your keyword research? i use the adwords tool + google + market samurai and when i do 500 keywords in most cases with the google adwords tool in a hard niche...i get about 2-4 good keywords. you have to extend your keywords and you sure will get something good. but i also have to admit your niche is too tough.

    Given the level of experience I'm presuming you have, plus the need to get your feet wet with something that's not competitive but will also give you a chance to see how everything works whilst promoting your first product, I recommend you target the following keyword phrase - "how to become a male model".

    This receives 4,400 searches a month and no doubt has high converting traffic. Your advertising message could be something like "How to become a male model using my secret workout formula" or something like that.

    You won't find people looking for "how to become a male model by getting fit", it's up to you to convince the people looking for "how to become a male model" that the way to become so is by getting fit.

    • Thank you. I will really look into it using that method. Makes sense to say how to become a male model, but then after throw in through fitness. I can't find much online about it which is why I wanted to make an ebook.
  • Another way is to define the level of attendane, which you need. Then choose keywords, whcih amount of traffic cover your needs. But remember that GKT shows attendance for month, and with these keywords, it's not easy to reach the top. Also GKT won't show all results, usually about 100, but it's possible, that there thousands of keywords. I prefer Semrush for finding keywords, look at my results for your keyword:
