Adsense and Pop ups... Against Google Adsense Guidelines?

Hey guys

Quick question. Can I use pop ups to collect emails while using Adsense?

I would of thought it would of been ok as I've seen it on tons of sites but as I was checking the Adsense Guidelines I found this...

Site Behavior

Sites showing Google ads should be easy for users to navigate. Sites may not change user preferences, redirect users to unwanted websites, initiate downloads, include malware or contain pop-ups or pop-unders that interfere with site navigation.

I am not sure, but I think it is best avoided. I put an aWeber pop-up on a site that I THINK had Adsense (not 100% sure, it was a while back) and there were no problems, I guess an opt-in is OK.

I put a CPA popup on there, and WHAM, 5 months in the sin-bin - though no Adsense ban or anything, it was a SERPS penalty of some sort. I dunno, I know I won't be doing THAT again, even if it was just coincidence.

By the way, this site bounced back recently (like I say, after 5 months) - zero original content, all mashed-up stuff like eBay, Amazon etc. Figure that one out...

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

One popup is allowed. But it must follow the rules.

It cannot cover any adsense ad.

It cannot interfere with surfing in, surfing out, or navigating the
site. A popup that requires that annoying click here, or do you
really want to leave BS is totally against TOS.

If your main goal is to get adsense clicks, then there is no
      reason for popups.

And you certainly should not put adsense in a pop up. That's
a sure way to get banned.

Just put a normal optin box on your site.

If it is a normal popup, most have them blocked anyway.
They are friggin annoying. Not a good user experience.

Google owns Feedburner, when you paste the Feedburner code on your page that Google provides, it creates a popup window to submit the email.

I've been collecting emails on Adsense sites since I first started Adsense 5-years ago.

The feedburner code only creates a popup when a button is clicked...
