Booting the Panda

Hi warriors,

Thought will share some of my observations after the panda update.

Problem 1
All the sites I had wp unique installed lost ranking and traffic.

Solution

Uninstall wp unique, add unique content/ article,no links on the home page to duplicate articles and "no index" articles which are duplicate.

Problem 2
Any site which I had profile links pointing directly to the money site lost ranking

Solution
No direct linking, use parasite sites to build links to. If you want an instant boost, use a unique you tube video with an actual human speaking ( no animoto or similar)

Problem 3
Link building is no more a numbers game , its about gaining high PR links.

Solution
Use BMR and you will see what I mean. Or better use homepage link rentals. Forget about link wheels.

Problem 4
Social bookmarking and social network links are back in action

Solution

Don't go blasting the internet with bookmarks. Use sites like microworkers or amazon turk to have unique IP ID bookmarks.

If you are using social bot or bookmarking demon make sure you use proxies or multiple accounts. Socialmonkee shows promise within the new breed of bookmarking services.

Opportunity

Increase internal linking within the site. I tried a site which had no internal linking and started using random internal linking and noticed some movement in ranking.

Biggest Opportunity

Use social media to the maximum , Google has openly declared it. Facebook likes, +1's, twitter and linked in will play a bigger role in ranking ( any social media for that matter)

As a disclaimer, these are some of my observations, I could be miles off target. So keen to know what your observations are.

    In your message you say to use youtube videos with human voices. Are you saying that Google monitors the soundtrack/voices of the videos?

      No, the Google bots don't listen to videos. That would be impossible. I think what he is implying is that you will get more views using an actual human rather than an animoto.

      I am not talking about voice overs but with actual human actors or speakers in it. Two advantages to it

      a) Viewers tend to use the like or dislike button more with this type of video as opposed to animation. Google don't have the patience or inclination to differentiate what kind of videos you upload but its the viewers who do that for you.
      b) I split tested an animoto video and actual person doing a product review and guess what it did to my conversion, it went up by 2% and to top it all my bounce rate for that page came down which helped my ranking as well. So in effect people tend to watch the whole video when there is an actual person in it.

    This is a very important line from the SEO Desk article neojr linked to:

    The common theme through all of the major updates is pretty simple: focus on the user experience.
    What happens is people in IM want that quick buck. They want to see money coming in for work they just did. So they cut corners. They load up their web pages with ads. They use regurgitated content and plugins that feed directly from content on vendor pages. Everything on their site either links to another page on their site pushing people to buy or affiliate links or sales pages for their own stuff.

    All of that's fine for us as marketers. But the message from Google is becoming increasingly louder and clearer: give your visitors a better experience.

    The typical marketer's site now is like walking down the midway at a carnival or state fair. Remember that? Remember how uncomfortable it made you feel to be yelled at to buy this or come try that? Unless you were loaded with money and ride tickets or you were trying to impress your date by spending big, you didn't like it. You wanted there to be more to the experience than carnies barking at you to buy buy buy.

    All Google is really saying is soften the selling a bit and give your visitors a more enjoyable and well-rounded experience. If you want to tell them to take a hike over that, I actually think that's a healthy reaction. But it's their game, not yours. When you rely on rankings for traffic, you either play by their rules or you find a different game.

      great for you. perhaps you're in line for the rollout of Panda V 2.0

      I am a lucky Panda V 1.0 beta tester myself so can vouch for many of the key points in this thread.

      Haven't tried the YouTube thing but manual high PR blog commenting has helped a lot as well as on-site seo "tweaking" and an increase in the frequency of posting original content than previous.

        I have benefited greatly from the Panda update by just submitting articles en masse to high PR web pages and blogs. Almost all of my sites have recently been surging in the SERPs, although still relatively insignificant in comparison to other sources of targeted traffic.

    I like your list, but I have few questions for you please:

    Couple of my blogs that I use this plugin on with great success until now, the home page has gone from page 1,2,3 for the main keywords, but all the posts are still ranking for the post titles.
    Do you think is just a matter of time before posts will be gone from serps or what's the deal?

    Correct, so what do you do with all existing profile links?
    And how are those parasites going to be treated by google? If just like the money sites, they will get filtered - will be there any juice left to push the money sites? Dropping profile links then?
    How about money sites that were hit with profiles and have wpunique installed, should I dump them just kidding..

    I use backlinks[dot]com with fairly good results on sites that were never touched by xrumer or wpunique
    One of my biggest site's problem is that besides profile links it has like 35 times more BL than any other top10 site in its niche. Everybody is under 1K, mine has 35K.Half of it is a sidewide but still, maybe the reason it cant break in to top3, despite the fact I have home links on top1 and top2 sites.. And no , there are no ads or spammy content,age is good, I even spend $$ on adwords to keep the brand recognition going.
    Before Panda this site owned 7 top1 keywords, since 2 months best of them is top2/3 the rest are in top4-15 range.
