my site apparently has way too high of a density of keywords, like i'm talking 10%+.

what is the ideal % to avoid being labeled a spam site?

  • You want to be somewhere between 2-3%. I know that everyone on here will have varying opinions on this and that is mine. You have to keep in mind that you are not only writing for the search engines, but that you are also writing for your visitors. The higher that you go in the percentage, the worse you are going to sound to someone that is looking at your site. It does you nothing if your visitors start to read and just leave because it is full of keywords and not useful information.
  • 3% to 5%. That's what I've found to be the most effective.
  • You shouldn't go over 3%. I've found that my sites rank best for keywords when the keyword density is between 1.5-2%.
  • i do not prefer more than 2%
  • I like keyword density 2-3%, if we talk to ezine article than it not accept more than 2% article content.
  • I would agree with 3%-5% if you have not got alot of text on the page (like a landing page with intro text and a few links into your site) and a bit less for pages that are mostly content and text.

    • If you have trouble figuring out your percentages, there are several WP plugins you can use that will automatically calculate it for you and tell you if you're in a good range or not. I've heard a lot of people talk about SEOPressor before, but it was out of my price range, so I kept looking until I found another one called BloggerHigh (100% free, just had to give up an email address to get it). You have to be careful and turn off the attribution in the options or it will leave an ugly hyperlink underneath your footer, though.

The Wordpress SEO by Yoast also has a nifty keyword analyzer...I use this along with the BloggerHigh plugin to get the best results. They both agree with the other posters here...2.5%-5% seems to be about right.
