Well, they say the only dumb question is the one not asked, so..

Is it worth doing an SEO campaign if I think I could only get on 2nd page of Google at best? The first page being dominated by Amazon, Zappo's those kind of stores.

We are talking a million searches per month.

If I were you I would try to bring it to the first page and then #1 if possible

For me 2nd page is not enough for the main key word.

If your key word has a high volume and terrible competition, 2nd page may okey!

Yeah, you might be able to get good traffic on page 2 if it has millions of searches a month, but to be honest I probably wouldn't bother if you don't aim for page 1.

I would try finding similar keywords that have maybe less searches (hundreds of thousands per month) but less competition as well that give you a shot on page 1.

Second page appears is not worth it. You will get very few numbers of visitor in a week. Maximum peoples only use first page to getting results of there query...

Totally depends on the niche but it is probab;y recommended to try and rank better for other niche terms

I think that you should try to work your way up and in my opinion it does not matter who dominates the first page, try and reach it with any cost.

if you are on 2nd page you will not get as much traffic as if you are on 1st page.

Yes obviously... I'm just wondering if it's worth it for a high volume search term

^ okay, I've been doing SEO for a little while, but I have no idea what you mean about Google Adword searches vs Google searches. How are they supposed to be different?

I am talking one million phrases matches or 300,000 exact matches.
And I can get to the first page in 1 - 2 weeks? I guess I've been doing it wrong...

There is no prob upto the 3rd page. Users will surely go upto these pages if the content is good.

Like the other posters mentioned it's probably better to go after niche keywords, I think the ROI for even getting to the second page will be fairly minimal as opposed to time spent smashing out niche keywords

Anyone can build amazon (except for the keyword "Amazon" ), so go for the 1 spot

Depends how much work it takes you to get to page 2. If you think that page 2 will supplyyou with enogugh traffic to warrant the amount of work you think it will take to get there then you should do it.

When you are there you can look into breaking onto page 1??

If there are really millions of searches per month for your keyword and you think you can get on page 2, it would probably be worth it, because you might get up to 100 visits a day, maybe, I don't know.

You CAN get to the first page! Try, try, & never give up. Focus on building high quality, dofollow backlinks using your targeted keyword as anchor text.
