Best Free Tool For Checking Backlinks

Just like the title says, what is the best free tool for checking backlinks to your site.

For example I recently, in the last 2 months, purchased dirt cheap profile links from someone on the WF, they were pinged and I thought that was that. I understand they may have been deleted by forum mods elsewhere or more likely is it possible that G is just ignoring them because it interprets them as spam?

Anyways, all the free tools I have used at most count 7 backlinks. Can anyone recommend a good free backlink checker?

No offense, but if you purchased "dirt cheap" profile links, why even bother checking? In the end, you get what you pay for.

and btw, there is no reliable backlink checking software available. The best you can do is use Yahoo Site Explorer or try and use Google but they don't give up that data.

I'm not really fussed about checking the ones I have already bought, I wasnt expecting much anyhow, its just for future use.

Re the links how do you know what youre getting anyhow with this forum. Two guys selling exactly the same thing per their sales thread will have differing results. Probably because one is trying to screw you, if not both.

SEO Spyglass is quite handy. You can sort by PR or other factors. My understanding is that no tool will show you all of your backlinks.

Thanks for sharing :-) I have been using the Google webmaster tool and tried many others but they all seem to throw out a variety of numbers. I like the Yahoo tool.

I always use Google to check my backlinks because different tools shows different number of backlinks but what i am really concerned about is Google rankings for my site and that's one of the reasons why i don't check my backlinks with Yahoo site explorer.

"link:site.com" will give you the number of links you have indexed in Google

Yahoo is depricating site explorer soon. So, what are the options? My personal favourite SEO SpyGlass. Also prefer the lighting fast majestic site explorer by MajesticSEO and open site explorer by SEOMoz. Also try backlinkwatch[dot]com

I heard about spy glass but it is not a free tool and you have to buy a very expensive software link assistant to use it you can not buy it solely

  • Google Webmaster tool and yahoo explorer are the standard ones. Beyond these, the ones that are free and I prefer them personally are Majesticseo, Searchenginegenie and Webtoolhub. In fact, Searchenginegenie provides plenty of tools, all free, to check and analyze a number of parameters.

hi .. although there are various tools to chek the backlink ... but personally what i m using are as follow: -

    1. search status ( its an addons for mozilla browser... ) https(colon)//addons(dot)mozilla(dot)org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchstatus/ this is one of the best addons give most useful info and no follow link as well
    2. yahoo explorer is also there...

I use a combination of ahrefs, Majestic SEO(free versions of both) and the paid version of SEO Spyglass. For quickness, I find ahrefs the best of the 3 because I can just log in, type in a url and instantly see any new(or lost) backlinks that have been indexed. You can only use 15 'queries' per day though. Enough if you are just checking a couple of sites.

I think it's a shame that the prices for the paid ahrefs subscriptions are so much(in my opinion). I can't really justify $79 per month for something like that.

If you find need to paid for this kind of software just don't buy seo backlink finder because I paid $97 for seo backlink finder on their sales page where they state: You just pay once for the software (no subscription, no update-fees, no hidden costs). Final Payment. You buying a single computer license, which means you can use the software on 1 computer. The software only works for a certain period of months after that they lock your license, and you are not able to launch the software anymore! Now that I reported them in a few places they completely canceled my license.

There just doesn't seem to be a good alternative to Yahoo Site Explorer. They tell you to use Google Webmaster tools but it doesn't give you any information on backlinks of competitor sites. Annoyingly Market Samurai just links you to a site which gives you limited info about backlinks
