niche reaper uses phrase match..good or bad?

You be the judge:

Broad - shows your keywords in any order and possibly with additional words.

Train my dog includes:
Dave's dog and I train on my day off. (any order)
I rode a train with my dog. (other words in the phrase)


Phrase - shows your keywords as a phrase (ordered and no additional words) but including other search terms.

"Train my dog" includes:
Train my dog quickly
Help train my dog
Help train my dog quickly
But none of the example results shown for Broad

Exact - shows your keywords as a phrase exclusively (without any other search terms).

[Train my dog] includes:
Only that exact search phrase.
None of the example results shown above in Phrase and Broad

So Exact Match shows the number of people searching for your exact term, but excludes those using your exact term and additional words outside of your phrase. You may want the additional search terms in your analysis.

For example, if you are analyzing weight loss for older people. Would you want to exclude the following search terms from your results:

weight loss for older people with diabetes
healthy weight loss for older people
rapid weight loss for older people
weight loss for older people with heart disease

Because Exact Match will exclude those but Phrase Match won't.

But you probaby don't want:
older weight loss products sold to people for a discount
hair loss and weight gain for people don't help older problems

Phrase Match excludes those but Broad Match doesn't.


If you are getting an idea for the value of the keyword, Phrase Match is probably best.
