This isn't anything new really - google constantly change their algorithm to get rid of sites that are trying to game their way to the top of the SERPs.

Google Panda is the Google's algorithm update. With this update Google algorithm is valuing your websites content more than anything else. They have set new parameters to identify & rate your content. The basic parameter is that your content must be unique & relevant.
