Stop Words in URL

I am building a site where I have to use the name of the company (one word) and then the keywords I am targeting in the URL. Should I use the company name first or last in the url to be able to compete for the keywords I'm after?

  • Use whichever way sounds and reads better. It shouldn't make much difference which order they are in.

    • It SHOULDN'T, and I can't really offer much proof that it does, BUT I did have a couple of sites recently that really struggled to even surface in the top 100 for their keywords, and I put it down to having a stopword BEFORE the main keywords.

      This is purely anecdotal, you understand, but from now on I will always put the keywords FIRST. It's like emphasising, THIS is what this site is about. I could be wrong.

    I thought i had read ages ago that the stop word should be at the end of the URL but of course had completely forgotten where

    • Why is there a "must" use of the company name?
      If you are talking domains, it should just be company name.
      If you are talking about sub pages, why would you use
      the company name to muddle things up?

      The domain really does not matter for search traffic.
      If it did, nobody looking for netmarketing would come to
      a forum on warriors.

      A domain with keywords and company, if you are looking for
      some mythical boost, will just muddle things up.

      Kayak is a rather new site that has gained authority pretty quick.
      They chose not to name it kayaktrafficdeals.com They just
      went with kayak.com. Zoosk did not choose zooskdating, zillow
      did not choose zillowrealestate, ebay chose not to use ebayauctions...

      If you insist, it would be a clear case of using dashes effectively.

  • I will recommend you target popular keyword for particular page, if you add company name with keyword than it give little bit impact for promoting to your company.
  • Placing the word in the end also works well.Because you are going to place keyword first in meta tag too.So it wont be a problem.
