Wordpress or Blogger for an adsense site? You might be surprised!

I will likely rub a few people the wrong way here but I actually recommend blogger for an adsense site under the right conditions! Here is why

note: These recommendations are for using blogger with a TLD

With blogger you can host your site with google, that means you don't actually need a hosting account. If you are brand new to making niche sites you can just pay for the domain ($10 bought through your blogger dashboard) and that's it, hosted free by google

Blogger is owned by google so it seems they favor domains hosted with them. I certainly did notice that my site got indexed VERY quickly

Blogger offers an adsense widget for EASY integration, good for newbies, but I recommend inserting your own adsense block into the code for the best CTR

Good for set and forget sites! I built a site on blogger about 8 months ago (one of my first niche sites) and have not updated it since, I average about $650 per month off this site! If I had this site on wordpress I would have had to update it to the newest version every few weeks!

Summary

Blogger is good (I ONLY recommend blogger if you get a TLD with it) for
  • A site you want to build and let it sit
  • A site where you don't need A LOT of options
  • If you are just going to put adsense to monetize
  • If you are newer, and just want to build a small site without buying a new hosting account
For most of my new sites I am using wordpress because I am building them out and like all the options, but I have 3 sites hosted on blogger that are making me good money.

Have you had success with blogger?

One of my best earning Adsense sites is 100% blogger (no TLD).

The site is 4+ years old & is absolutely , is doesn't get any cheaper than blogger.

The haters will chime in soon, about how blogger will delete your site. I say BS because out of 10+ blogspot sites I have never had a single site deleted (never!)!

The #1 rule (live by this, no joke) with blogspot is, comment on another blogspot site that you don't own.

BTW, I don't care that I don't own the site/domain, I have no intention of ever selling even If it was self hosted. Why would I sell, it's free money.

    • No hate here. My free bloggers rock.

    • Thanks for your comment

Just curious, why do you say to NEVER comment on another blogspot site that you don't own? I am curious what your reasoning is.

Considering Google owns Blogger, I know for a fact that it is easier to get ACCEPTED into adsense if you have a blogger blog. As far as maintaining it and comparing it to WordPress... I'm a WP guy
  • Well, honestly I have never had any luck with blogger sites. On the other hand Wordpress with hosting has worked wonders for me. So...
  • If you need more than just HTML, then you've no choice but to use Wordpress. If you don't mind using third party apps to cater your need then Blogger is a good option.

    • I have no idea what you are talking about. Blogspot allows you to do most anything.
For free. With wordpress, you have to pay.

  • i get good adsense return on my blogger site..
  • Impressed with the medical book review site. The guy doesn't even spell the word "source" correctly and he's makin' bucks!
  • Thanks for the information everyone. I've setup two self hosting WP sites recently and added around 40 pages to one site. However, it's not picking up excellent traffic and the earnings are barely reaching $10.

I am not saying its a mistake of WP self hosting but I can't see any significant SEO advantage on WP compared to my free blogger site which pulled in more traffic in the same time frame.

Now I will give it a shot to 2 blogger sites too and check how they are performing.

  • wow, you can earn $650 per month from one blogger site, have you done any seo work? I mean off-page seo
  • Just to chime in here. For throwaway sites I also find Squidoo to be pretty good, yes even for adsense

    • Old thread that I missed, but..as usual, when one digs up an old
thread, normally the nonsense will follow...

Yeah. Sure. And can you please explain how squidoo has anything
to do with what this thread is about? Like putting adsense on
      a site?

Squidoo profit shares. But that has nothing to do with anything
about adsense. And if your site is not ranked in the top
couple of thousand, you will get zero.

My squidoo sites are NOT throw away sites. I do quite well.

But since you can't add adsense to them....
