Aged domain and google 404's

I bought an aged domain to start my niche in.
Apparently it had quite a few links that were indexed by google because I keep seeing requests from google bot that 404.

Would it be smart to build blog posts to these pages?
I'm thinking it probably would be but wanted some feed back.

I decided to go in and do 301 redirects to my other posts.
Hopefully this was the right thing to do. At least the traffic will go
somewhere now.
