Outgoing Link Optimization

Hello Warriors,
I have a quality product review website with original content, but I don't want it to look spammy to Google, since almost all of the outgoing links point to Amazon.

• What are some best practices when placing product affiliate links on a website?

• How many affiliate links, at most, should be in one post/page?

• Should the product links be to internal redirect pages through my site? - and is there a good Wordpress Plugin for this?

• Lastly, is it beneficial to include a "no follow" tag in the link code?

Thank you for sharing your IM knowledge!

  • I can't believe that nobody can muster an answer for these Q's...who dares to be the first!
  • • What are some best practices when placing product affiliate links on a website?

Download a plugin called "Pretty Link"...this will allow you to create a link on your domain that redirects to your affiliate product when someone clicks it.

    • How many affiliate links, at most, should be in one post/page?

As many as you want... I normally have an image and maybe 2 text links...one near the beginning of the content and one near the end.

    • Should the product links be to internal redirect pages through my site? - and is there a good Wordpress Plugin for this?

See the 1st response. Do a plugin search for "Pretty Link" and download the "Lite".

    • Lastly, is it beneficial to include a "no follow" tag in the link code?

ALL external links from your site should be nofollow (my own pet peeve)... there's a plugin called Robots Meta that you can download/install that you can control this globally on your site.

    Hope that helps...

    DeShon

    • Thanks!
Wouldn't Google frown upon using the same affiliate link a bunch, all over the post?

I've heard that it may raise some red flags. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

why your out going links point to amazon?
    • [1] reply
    • Because he is promoting amazon products?
  • Yea don't overdo it and make sure you have links to other pages too. Maybe further details from the products main homepage (make it open in a separate page/tab). Then ensure the visitor knows to click your affiliate link for the best price.

Just double check there isn't a better deal on the official page you are sending them.

    • Hi VAIL,

      Avoid the Bridge Page classification.

Include something of value on the page, and no, your bought and paid for opinion is not the something of value I mean.

Link to the order form, not another sales page (Google hates that).
  • Will a plugin like Pretty Link help me avoid this?

    • No! The bridge page classification is the result of your page serving no other purpose but to funnel traffic to another website. You must add something of value to users on your webpage and make it clear that your links to amazon products are sponsored links.
  • Does anyone know?
