Adsense: Many Sites vs. One Site

If someone starts earning with Adsense on a site, it's obvious that people want to expand and make more money making sites with good keywords.

Say, someone makes $15/day on a site..not bad..but let's make TEN such sites, or maybe 100s. People do this for a long time already.

My thought now is, what exactly would be the benefit of having MANY Adsense sites covering various niches - as opposed to simply adding more, high CPC keyword optimized pages to an existing site?

Let's assume someone has an established site in a more general niche like insurance, health or whatever.

Each of those niches can yield many keywords without end, and its simply a matter of adding a new page optimized for a good keyword and ranking the page.

The benefit is that *usually* once an existing site is already established, ranking, indexing etc. for particular pages on the existing site goes easier and faster.

So..why would i sit down and think about new niches and keywords for new sites - instead of working on existing sites but add pages instead?

Basically, don't i have the same earnings potential with ONE site (assuming that the niche yields many good keywords)...as opposed to building dozens or hundreds of new adsense sites?

Or are people just making "many" sites simply because they are getting EMDs for the advantage an EMD has for their keyword(s) rankings?

I think you are right instead of many AdSense sites adding page on the existing one is the better idea; but people used to have many sites I guess because they don't want to take risk. If one site got banned or face any problem then the losswill be minimized due to having others.

    Hey GeorgR

As Google seems to love sites with great content and take a lesser liking to thin MFA sites.. In my opinion, work on one site first until it sustains itself in terms of Revenue AND Google. What I mean by sustaining itself with Google is, Will your site be in danger of dropping in the SERPS because of lack of content and/or quality content?

After it's a proven winner in that sense is the only time I'd expand on to new niches. Then it's just rinse and repeat.

And you do have the same potential income if your niche allows you to expand not just vertically but horizontally. (EX: Not just Dogs -> Dog Training but rather Pets => Dogs,Cats,Dog Training, Cat Training)

I'm sure many people will tell you not to put all your eggs in one basket. Which is true, but I don't see 100 thin MFA sites as EGGS.. Hehe. Quality over quantity my friend!

Yes GeorgR your thinking is correct. My large sites make a lot more money than my smaller ones. It's not uncommon for an established sites revenue to almost double just by adding 50 articles or so. The new content obviously gets indexed faster and ranked quite well.

Some niches of course you wont be able to write tonnes of content on there but if you pick your niche smartly, you will be able to find new related keywords and write content new content till the cows come home.

It's the old adage about mega sites vs. small niche sites. I would trust more in the niche sites and having plenty of them instead of one mega site. If something happen to one of my sites - I still have plenty more.

Hi George, I don't like to put all my eggs in one basket so I am doing both

My recommendation is to START with niche sites, then once you have a few good earning sites start a bigger site, why?

      Niche sites
      • easier to rank for a targeted keywork on a new niche site vs a new page on a new site that will eventually be a big site
      • Easier to start 5 niche sites and play around with the design and ads to find something that converts well
      • Less time and effort needed to produce results (within a few weeks you should be making money, VS with a big site you may have to wait months)
The advantage and disadvantages of a big site
      • You should only build a big site to target competitive niches, so it will take you longer to rank for your desired initial keyword. Then you can target smaller niches with the pages (why build a massive site to rank for an easy keyword when a niche site would do the same job)
      • it takes a lot longer to see good rankings for your authority domain
      • Once you do start getting good rankings for your large website all the pages will rank a bit higher, and new pages will get indexed quickly and get good placement

    Hello,

You are right ! To be honest, I think it will be a good idea to have three websites and concentrating on them very well. But these websites should be different in their fields.
