Simple Keywords Question

Is it better to have one, two, three or many keywords for one web page or article?

In some cases, I have found many targeted keywords for a web page or an article that I publish but have often wondered if it is best to use few or many keywords for one page or article?

If there are many, would this have a negative effect?

Thanks

I have found it all depends on the article or web page you are putting up!

If you are smart, you can target multiple keywords with the one phrase.

I tend to use primary and secondary in the title tag, if it makes sense to do it i.e it doesn't look spammy. You can then put the other keyword phrases in the body, but again so it doesn't look spammy.
It depends how closely related they are and if there's any point having a separate page for each. Many phrases won't have a negative effect if the content flows and is readable. If you're going for content that's 600+ words you'll find that you'll get traffic of lots of related keywords that you're not targeting. Sometimes more than for the primary phrase you're going for.
Also, once you get enough links/authority to the content you'll start ranking for phrases that would have been primary keyword phrases, just because those words appear in the content in whatever order and whatever distance from each other. In my experience at least.

Yes, have many but not too many. Moderation is the key. Not too little or too much. Too many keywords will just dilute your page focus, unless it is one hack of an "authority" page by itself which has a lot of great content on that one page. IMHO, the root domain trust and authority is also a big factor for inner page rankings.

It's a good idea to have a number of related keywords in your page for the LSI effect, which increases your chances of getting ranked for several keyword variations for the same page.

You just need to focus on the "bigger" keyword and make mention of a couple of smaller ones on the same page. Just don't let it sound contrived or artificial to human visitors.

I have had success by focusing on just one keyword per article and maintaining the relevancy of article using LSI words in it.
