I recently was put in charge of my company's website. I am rebuilding our website right now and so far we have 3 backlinks compared to our multi-million dollar competitor which have over 1.7k backlinks. The things about these backlinks are... paid links purchased from a seo company in India. I believed all of them are paid links, not much value.

Their domain is aged back in 2001, compared to ours which is 2008. I actually have my eyes on another competitor that is ranked #1 on our buy keywords, and their domain is aged 2007 which is not too far from us. But my boss just want to beat this particular one which had 1.7k paid backlinks, much older domain than us.

I want to outrank them within a year, is it possible? What is the best methods to tackle big companies like these? I am kind of desperate for help to put together an effective backlinking strategies to work on for the next year.

I have my own personal tools like SENUKEX, scrapebox, The Best Spinner. I am planning to build 50-100 links per week and let SE slowly finds them. I am going to build Web 2.0 sites, Social bookmarking, Articles, Press releases, Blog commenting. I am not sure if I should bother with forum profile linking. If I were to buy links which my boss is kind of interested, where are the best places to get perm high value backlinks?

My main concern is finding a solid best effective backlinking strategies to tackle big companies like that... if any expects can help me and give me your 2 cents on my situation, I am GREATLY appreciated!

this is just me Opinion, i am no expert but if you really want "My main concern is finding a solid best effective backlinking strategies"

i would start with you internal linking.
find out where you links are bleeding to, other sites which dont really have any value etc

you need to have a better grasp of you dynamic linking that the google bots can see, and for you normal linking which your vistors can use to navigate your website.

if this does not make any sense at all (as it once did for me then don't worry)
    go here revengeofthemininet dot com

its very well known website, and best of all the information is FREE.
its not mine, its owned by Michael Campbell.

anther good area to start off with is

ok so WHY are you doing all this stuff??

well simple... to out rank big companies you need better page rank.
you need quality links, with lots of authority which will give you good page rank.

to get good page rank you follow those details and instructions listed in the above 3 ebooks and your well on to your way.

do this before you, spend a Penny on all the other "tactics"

why? because its the cheapest, and you just need a good programmer or web developer

oh btw i do recommend a course: domain tweeks by chadd kimball
i been on this course and i highly recommend it! i am no affiliated in anyway
as you can see i am not giving you a link to buy anything lol just my recommendation.

    hope that helps.

Tons of links are not needed to ourank that particular competitor,You need quality links. Also check their indexed number of pages.Add some unique pages to your site.Aged domains are hard to beat because of inlink between the pages in those sites.
    Try your best good luck

You are very wrong there. Paid links would be of no value only if Google could determine they were all paid links. If the links have Pr then they do very much have value and you will need to match their links with quality links as masterjani has indicated.

    Yes but

If this is truly a multi million dollar company then they won't have 1700 senukex links =-they will have quite a few authority links and you are not very likely to beat them with any of those tools IF their links are targeting the same keywords you are (your backlink check should tell you if thats so).
track idea. You are going to need to get high quality links whether bought or not. In my opinion the best place to get solid backlinks from is an SEO that has a network he uses to rank his own sites (or good paying clients). backlink sellers that push their packages to too many customers end up getting exposed at some time.

You outrank the big wigs the exact same way you would outrank any ole site: Time, Patience, Persistence.

First, do your On-Site SEO BETTER than your competition and it makes the job a whole lot easier (natural ranking): Keyword density, <h1><h2><h3> tags, meta tags/description, inner linking, keyword friendly URLs, Title, etc.

Build backlinks however you want, but diversify: Social bookmarking, blog commenting, articles, directories, rss feed aggregators, other web 2.0 properties... Paid links, automated links, manual links... Whatever.

      KEYWORD ANCHOR TEXT IN HYPERLINKS

      Time, Persistence, Patience...

That's pretty much "How-to SEO" in a nutshell...!

      CHEERS!

P.s. OBVIOUSLY I left A LOT out... But don't turn outranking a big wig site into something that it's not... Do what you know and what you've learned on the forums in relation to SEO and ranking... Apply it... It will take time. You will stall out at a certain point... Go on a backlink rampage, dance, and end up higher than before. Rinse and repeat :p !!

Obviously it depends on your niche, but I would focus on high PR, high value links as much as possible. I have found those carry a lot of weight in the search engines. I think your plan of building links slowly over a year's time frame is a great idea. I also agree with Scott G to focus quite a bit on on-site SEO. It never fails to amaze me how many big companies completely ignore on-site SEO!

THANK YOU for everyone's input. This really gives me an idea on what to do.

RajaRajan, no idea what dynamic linking is but will check it out for sure. Already signed up to get a free copy of that ebook =)

masterjani, quality links = high page PR or domain PR links right?

Mike Anthony, oh shoot. You're right. I just looks at the links and just assume they are PR0. But they are PR0-3 paid links. They also have a bunch of forum profile links, and a bunch of people linking to them. no they did not target the exact product keywords. Their archor links are their company's name and the category of the service, which is good because they are not thebuy product keywords which I am aiming for. Yea they made 40 millions back in 2007. It seems like the only thing they did is purchase paid link PR0-3 and forum profile linking from SEO company.

scott g, Thank you! Yes I am working on the site and have done ALOT of onsite SEO as you mentioned and their sucks totally, which I am glad. Means more chances for me ^-^

jr1228, by your "high PR, high value links", do you mean high PR page rank? or high PR domain rank?

Thing is, why fight such a battle? There are other ways to rank
above the site for other real search terms. That's what you should
go for. Trying to tackle a huge, trustworthy, authoritative site
might actually be impossible for certain words.

Impossible is just reality. Many people think there is a checklist
of magical things. There isn't. There are sites that will never
be toppled unless they go under.

Incidentally, I make more off of paid links than anything else.
