What's up!

I want to start two new health-related websites, one is going to be a message board for people with an illness, the other is going to be a website providing unbiased information. I bought the com/net/org domains, just to play it safe!

But which domain should I actually promote for each website?
Do people perceive .com as too commercial and too..hm..gung-ho and bold?
Are .org or .net perceived as softer and more empathic?

Does anyone know if there are any scientific studies or internet polls on this topic?

Which domains would you personally use? I'm curious about your thoughts on this. : D
#com or net or org

I would use the /com for the information and the .net for the message board. .com is the most commonly used, so it's the easiest to remember. This will be great for people who want to type in the domain to get back to the information you are presenting. .net is for network, which is what you will be creating with the message board.

I've never heard of studies or polls being conducted on which extension is better for these cases, but these are my personal thoughts.

.org is mostly used for non-profit organizations, you being on this forum says enough you don't want something non-profit

go with .com I use .net just as an alternative.

Definitely go with the .com domain, it's the most commonly used domain extension and people feel comfortable using .com sites.

Anyone who thinks .org sites are nonprofit needs to step into
the new century. This aint 1997.

Like Scott G, I'll stop there. If I didn't, it would just egg more people
into just complete utter nonsense and domain extension silliness.

.com .net .org - all these three don't have a big difference when it comes to ranking but .com is always better since you can commercialize the domain

.com all the way. They have a slight edge even in ranking. Plus if there is a .com version why get a .net or .org?

Ok... I've seen this multiple times and I don't visit the forum as much as I used to, but where are people getting this information?! Completely INCORRECT and UNTRUE!

NOBODY ask ME to back my statement with "evidence" of my claim... I've already asked multiple individuals to back the ^^^ above statement and that hasn't happened yet. They haven't backed it before it's hot air...

      CHEERS!

Since you are not actually selling anything, i will recommend the .org for it all.

It bugs me to no end when people think .org = non-profit. It bugs me even more when people think non-profit means you can't make money. I used to run a non-profit organization.

Non-profit from a legal perspective only means you cannot have shareholders or owners. That's it. You can have profit, employees, etc. There are definitely IRS rules you have to follow to maintain your tax exempt status, but no where will you find a stipulation that you can't have positive cash flow.

For SEO purposes it makes no difference whatsoever.

.com is the most well-known TLD (and therefore more commercial), so should be #1 choice for whichever website you are going to monetize (if you are, that is!).

It really doesn't make that big of a difference in my experience but if they are all available you may as well take the .com. But don't turn down a good domain if you can get the net or org, you can do just as well with these.

I'd go with the .com. A .com domain is also easier to sell if you ever want to flip the site.

.Com has always been king and always probally will be. It will always be my first choice unless I'm trying to come off as an organization in which case I would want to own the .com also but use the .org .
