Promoting Multiple Products/Pages - Same Site

I keep reading how we should keep things looking as natural as possible to keep google happy.
Say i was adding 1 item per day onto a site. Each day i published to 5 high PR directories. Day 1 id publish 5. Day 2 would be 10. Day 3 would be 15. Is this bad in googles eyes or is this ok because its different products. Is it best to have a number of different but similiar sites so that we can add at this rate but spread things a little?
Also lets say we are dripping to low PR sites. If we are dripping 20 items at the same time for the same site then wouldnt that look terrible?
