Can only rank for tag from a blog

Does anyone ever encounter this problem before? One of my sites together with its blog pages are not ranked anymore in the SERPs. Site and pages are still indexed in G though. Did a search through the SERPs and found that only a tag page (mydomain/tag/my-tag) ranked at page 35.

The site is about 2.5 months old. Is this normal for new sites? The blog is able to rank from page 1 to 3 previously but now it's simply dropped to nothing.

Could it be off-page over-optimization even when I only pumped hundreds of profile links to it?

If anyone had similar experiences, please share your views.

    I know what you mean. My site is only one month old though, and I see my tags ranking higher than the pages I'm actually trying to rank for. I'm only backlinking my targeted pages not my tags, but somehow for some of my keywords my tags will be better. For me I think it may just be some google dance since the page for my tags have only recently been indexed, but since you have an older site I'm not sure.

      At least your pages are still ranked. For me they are gone....

    are you using any seo plugins? could it be your setting that say only index on tags? where by noindex on others?

      Thanks for the suggestion. I've checked that as well. Problem is, these pages were able to rank from pages 1 to 3 previously. So I am not sure now.
