AdSense, Some Tips (Linkunits...)

Contrary to common belief,

i did not have too much success by placing a Link Unit below the header of my site.

(I am talking about Link Units which kind of "mimic" a menu, below the header etc.)

I think that site visitors pretty much figured out that that such "menu style" link units are no really menus, but ads. The CTR and the clicks on the LU were underwhelming, to say the least...

There is another factor which comes into play...the phrase "less can sometimes be more".

As you know, Ads are placed with usually the most expensive ads on top, and the least expensive (lowest CPC on bottom).

If you place a link unit which gets very bad CTR.....you are already wasting 4 or 5 of the top ad positions on your site because the LU has either 4 or 5 ads.

So the big 336 or 300 blocks which then should come (after the link unit) will have cheaper ads, lower CPC.

For me, removing the link unit was, if anything, positive with better revenue and higher CTR.

In addition: Site visitors less "annoyed" by Ads which mimic a menu, and Google probably more pleased too.

Just my personal experience.
