Is it advisable to post blog comments on blogs that haven't had anyone post in over a year? Or is it a waste of time? Thank you.

If you see comments posted there recently it probably works, if not it's probably moderated and the owner doesn't care anymore.

It can't hurt, but before you start doing that you might want to read some threads about what people have experienced with blog commenting... good and bad.

It can be quite beneficial for SEO, but for traffic, go for newer articles.

My opinion is to avoid that blogs as it is full of waste of time I think. It is never advisable as this will not marked as quality backlinks. And quality backlink matters not the quantity.

What do you suggest as quality backlinks?

I completely disagree, especially if they are coming from high PR pages.

You may have a hard time getting your comment approved on a blog that seems to have been abandoned.

The best technique that I've found is to check the homepage first. If there's at least a moderate amount of recent posts I'll leave a quick (but on-topic) comment on one of them & save the blog. Then, I'll check back in 24 hours, 48 hours, even up to a week. If my comment is active I'll make note of the blog and save it to a different list.

Then, over time, I'll make a few posts here and there to some of the inner pages with PR. Most will be approved since I've verified that the blog owner has already approved my initial post.

This, while time consuming initially, is MUCH better than going right after the posts with a high PR.

I have had the same question. I wondered if it was considered shady seo? but from the answers here most seem to think it is okay. I have posted to such blogs but always wondered what the protocol was for that one. Of course it is mainly for PR and not traffic so I guess it depends on what you after.
