I was doing a bit of backlink spying on my top competitor and I noticed that alot of the links were invisible (text color was the same as background color)

would this be enough to report the site and hopefully get it penalized?

    Maybe, maybe not.

It's more of a moral question on your part. If you feel it would be advantageous to you, in that you can't beat your competitor normally, and you have no issue with doing that- then try.

I might, but that's because I don't like anybody at all

Report to whom? Anyway, backlinks are considered an external factor and something that is out of the owner's control. So, no.

Are these backlinks on HIS site? Cause if they're not, they're out of his control.

Plus, report to whom? Google? Aren't they supa dupa advanced? I expect them to catch all these old tricks, right?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

How does google know you didn't make those links to his site just so you could report him??

I guess there isn't any type of Google Police! Supposedly Google figures this out on there own........but I think it has to be a HUGE site with all kinds of craziness to get flagged! Like JCPenny story and so on. I have seen some weird things from competitors but Google doesn't seem to mind it!

just worry about your own marketing...

and besides, how do you know if he infact makes his own backlinks?
if he's paying someone, and they tell him they will do a good legitimate job
for him, and then you get him banned??? What if it's some other issue altogether
that he doesn't even have control of?

Unless you take him to a court of law, and he has the opportunity to present his case and the facts and evidence hat support his side as well, you judge him guilty without knowing all the facts.

The same could happen to you or I, and for someone to take out their frustrations on us,
It's just is not a balanced act.

Didn't you learn in elementary school, nobody likes a nark?

Don't you have better things to do with your time, like creating your own backlinks?

      Don't be so petty...

No, Google has no idea who made the backlinks because of an IP.

Really? Pretty sad/embarrassing people need to stoop to this level to "beat" out their competitors. It's unfortunate we have "marketers/business men & women" who resort to such behaviors. Am I right? Bad business.

These invisible links are not hidden to keep people from figuring where their links are coming from... it's in place to prevent leakage.
