Some questions! =)

First - Good Morning! Hope you're all having a good tuesday!

I've taken some advice from the board and I have some questions.

How often do you check your google analytics? What exactly am I looking for? I mean I can see the patterns if my traffic is going up and this stuff...but should I be focusing on anything specific.

I've checked the webmaster tools, and after doing some backlinking, submitting my URL to google and whatnot - my traffic went from 60-90 visitors a day to 600-700 per day. So out of 8k impressions though, only 900 of those people clicked - or 29%.

Just not sure of the numbers I should be focusing on here or what my goals should be. I don't have a site where you can see if your traffic converts in particular, cause they don't buy anything ON the site - so I guess I kinda wing it?

  • Wow.. I've never heard of anyone complaining that the "only" had a 29% CTR. So you mad about $400 on AdSense?

    • I have no idea what the CTR SHOULD be - so I don't know if it's good or not.

I don't use Adsense - I know everyone talks about it - but I am not positive what it really is.

  • Bounce rate is a key factor to keep an eye on. Anything over 50% can be considered "high" but that varies by niche/purpose. The takeaway is using it to determine if someone found what they were looking for when they arrived at your page, and adjust accordingly. Or "cheat" and add a video to the page to keep visitors on your site/page longer. I've improved clients SEO (for stubborn pages) by using this strategy alone...a two page jump in rankings in some cases.

    • To my knowledge I don't thing how long they stay on the page factors in the bounce rate. Right? Just whether or not they clicked onto another page.
  • First off 29% click thru rate is pretty good. You should be happy there. Top spot on Google usually gets about 40% CTR so you are getting good numbers.

As for analytics you should have specific goals set up and be checking them all the time.

If you are selling something see how much traffic ends up there. You can track your conversions this way.

I always look at which organic keywords are producing the most goals completed that have room for improvement in the rankings.
