Market Samurai SEO Comp question

So I was looking for a keyword which has like 860 exact monthly searches and the comp is around 125k

There is no EMD bought yet, so I thought I'd try my luck on this

Is it worth trying for top 5 positions with the EMD? Or is the competition way too tough? No Ads competing for this kw as well.

The BLD number looks a little high except for rank 9, that should be attainable pretty easily. I'm by no means the expert though, I'm just going from the Challenge training.

Well it does not seem out of reach but it does seem like a lot of work for only 860 searches a month.

If there does not seem to be much add competition you might try getting the domain and running an adword campaign for a week to see what kind of traffic/conversions you get before spending a lot of time and money getting the site ranked.

Are there some closely related keywords you can put on the site as well? A lot of times it may not be worth doing for one particular keyword but you can group a bunch of them on a site and it makes things worth doing.

Looks like you've got a lot of authority sites on page 1. (I'm making this assumption based on the amount of links to the domains and the age of the domains.)

I don't know. Looks a little too tough IMO. Plus it's not getting too many monthly searches. If the competition was easy and I knew I'd be able to make it into the top 3 results I wouldn't mind the low search numbers.

See this is where it gets confusing for me.

I have heard that if you get an EMD, and full optimize a site SEO wise for that keyword and drive 50 or so backlinks to a page then this will quite easily outrank many authority sites that arnt optimized at all. And are simply just ranking because of their huge domain backlinks.

Is there anyway of knowing this without testing?

Which backlinks are you using? Yahoo explorer or majestic (I think it is). Make sure you are using Yahoo. It seems to be a lot more accurate to me.

If you are, then it looks pretty easy to rank. Just reverse engineer the one that has the most links, and get the same backlinks if you can. Then put your keywords in the header, title, url and description and you should be good to go.

I'm already ranking for a very synonymous keyword which has 90k comp/1700 exact monthly searches and im at #11, but the kw is used in the post name (and the domain name is different). I was also thinking whether I should go for abc.com/kw2 since abc.com/kw1 is already ranking well. Got kinda confused!

It's Yahoo site explorer. Although, thanks for letting me know about EMD.

However, what would you say about.. instead of going for the EMD (cause of the low searches), how about I try ranking as an article on my already 4 month old site? Cause there's another synonymous keyword for which im ranking well (it's got 1700 exact searches / 90k comp)

I am sorry did you just tell him to get 788 million backlinks?
or were you referring to the 1,174 backlinks to the page?

If it was that easy to rank for this term then how come all the top sites have so many backlinks to the domain. It would be interesting to see what results the second page has.
      thanks

Interpreting keyword information is by far the weakest part of my game as well. There always seems to be so much contradictory information out there. Some people claim age is vitally important, others say that domain backlinks don't matter all etc. I almost feel like I would be better just picking random buyer keywords and just working until I was ranked.

Does anyone know of a great service that anyone (preferably a fellow warrior) has for guaranteeing great keywords? I have MS, but I just find myself wasting SO MUCH time. I can write quickly on any topic and I have great backlinking contacts, but I am so frustrated trying to interpret MS results that I would pay for it.
