Domain Forwarding affects SEO

Hi,

I have a website(say abcxyz dot com) now I purchased another domain name(say myname dot com) and using domain CP of myname dot com I forward it to abcxyz dot com. so whenever someone types, myname dot com it actually shows content of abcxyz dot com but the domain name in address bar remains myname dot com(masking).

My question is, is it a good process? is it SEO friendly? If not, then how can i make it SEO friendly.

  • Hi goodluckdomain,

Is it good for what? What is it you are trying to accomplish?

Which web page are you trying to get indexed and ranking? If it is the masked domain then no, you won't see anything beneficial, and may have difficulty getting it indexed. Search engines bots look at the source markup and see exactly where the content is served from, you are not fooling them, it's only users that may be unaware of the masking.

    • I am totally agree that this is something like spamming and how can anybody wonder that this is good and would crawl early. i dont think like you.

    • I have a question. I know this thread is old, but it came up in google second. I have a domain for my business, and I was using a free hosting account. I've never had a problem with the hosting. Somehow, my wordpress theme was hacked, and was trying to redirect my site to some other link. I couldn't figure out how to stop it and I wanted to keep the theme, so I paid someone to check it out and changed my password so they can have access to my web account. Before the programmer could look at my theme, the hosting company shut my site down for malware, abuse, and phishing. I emailed the company several times with no reply. Now if I google my domain name, the results show up with a warning saying "This site may be harmful to your computer". But I already forwarded my domain to my facebook account til i figure something out.

My question is, what should I do about creating another site, and how will google know my site is safe now once it's done? I was going to create another free hosting account and forward/mask my domain to the free subdomain name. But now I'm thinking my SEO will be affected because it will be for the sub domain and not my actual domain name.

Can you (or anyone else) please help me, and tell me what I should do? I'm so frustrated and probably losing a lot of potential customers.
  • Hello!
Certainly!! You can Transfer your domain to another site by redirecting your old pages to new pages by using 301.

thanks !! for sharing such type of information`

    • And now the other shoe drops!

It's beginning to look like the whole point of this thread was to start another spamfest on this forum.
      1. Spambot creates series of fake new accounts
      2. Spambot posts basic (what is... how is... which is... when is...) type of question spun from a list of topics related to the forum.
      3. Spambot returns an a preprogrammed schedule to post generic answers for that same topic for each of the fake user accounts

Round and round we go, the same generic questions and answers posted over and over and over by the same group of spambots. The only thing that changes is the user names.
  • Redirecting to a new site and therefore redirecting link juice to a new site is a very very old blackhat trick that seems to have made a slight resurgence after the big updates this year and again is no longer an easy way to rank a site. If this is your aim? I'm not sure why else you would have done it?

    EDIT

Didn't read the date of the first post! Sorry.

But FancyNancy, here is my advice for you. Stay away from free hosting, you get what you pay for. Get a paid for hosting, it's as little as $50 a year plus domain with some companies and they are much more secure and you won't have this problem in the future. Spend a little money, save some hassle.

    • Okay. But when I do pay for hosting and develop a new site (new content), how do I get google to remove "This site is harmful to your computer" warning in the search engines? Will it automatically update after a certain period of time?

  • First of all , It's call "Domain Masking" and i believe you are using iframes to accomplishing right?
Sorry but it's bad for search engines
i am wondering why you want mask domains? is there any specific reason?
  • Sounds like you are talking about REDIRECTING one site to another-301 redirect. If you do a 302 redirect this does not effect SEO. However, a 301 redirect is a permanent redirect and will send all links from A to B.
  • Oh wow. Okay. Thanks for all the help. I truly appreciate it. :-)
