Hi

When doing keyword research I never know what the 'average' amount of global and local EXACT search numbers I should be looking for when choosing a new niche or micro niche.

I know this is only part of the niche research, just something I've always been curious to know other people's views.

for me i compare this number with the allintitle metrics. so let's say a keyword has 1000 exact search and allintitle sites for the keyword is say 300. then it's good for me. i can work with it. so in that ratio for me. hope it makes sense and helps.

Ahh right ok, so its more about the ratio between allintitle and exact matches for you rather than total exacts. Understood

Depending on the keyword I am targeting I look for at least 10 searches per day or 300 per month. I really prefer going after keywords with at least 800 exact searches per month.

You don't want to waste your time targeting a keyword that isn't going to send a little traffic. I think this is what discourages a lot of new people that hop into IM.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that sometimes you can buy a domain that can help you rank for multiple keywords, especially buyers keywords. Like, BestAirCleanerReviews.com, then you will be able to target keywords "best air cleaner" "Air Cleaner reviews" or "best air cleaner reviews"

If you can do that you may have three keywords that each have 300 exact searches per month but total they come out to 900. So that would be worth it.

as far as the keyword search volume concerned, recently i am struggling to make a choice for a product based niche, to do or not to do, that is my question
i choose a product as a niche, when i do a whole-product-name keyword search in google keyword tool, the "exact" match volume is quite low, (sometimes even zero -- in this case, would you guys definitely throw it away asap?) then i would devide the product name into several different keyword combinations and repeat searchs for each phrase, there come troubles (for me), i would give up the niche if the search volumes are all low (as others say, < 1000 local exact per month) ; in other situations, say the product related keywords search volumes are low, while the volumes for a broader niche are (very) high, should i give up this niche?
would you please be kind to shed a beam of light onto my way to a correct direction?
    thanks in advance

I try not to dip below 500 exacts local. I'll grab a few lower than that if I'm bored or something but really anything below that brings me like $5-$10 more per month (Adsense). For sales or businesses, anything 300 exacts local or higher is good IMO.
