The Google -950 Penalty?

Hi guys.

I have a few people now who have approached me for my link building service, that are currently suffering what appears to be a -950 penalty and want to use my link building to get out of it.

There sites rank well for months, then google has shot them onto the very last page of the search engines!

What are the main causes for this (is it an internal problem, or to do with there current link build), and what are the cures?

Anyone with any advice much appreciated.

  • Hi RankWarrior,

It doesn't sound like a penalty to me. Based on the little information you provided, my best guess would be they got a temporary boost in ranking from QDF, and now that QDF has worn off they have settled down to their currently earned rankings. All they need to do is work on their SEO and promotional efforts.
  • ...or they got hammered by the latest algorithm changes and need to rethink theirs sites and link building.
  • The reasons may be linking to one or more websites which are considered as spammer, farm link, or blaklisted from google point of view.

Another reason might be lots of changing in page contents. It signals google that your pages has lost their reliablity and google has pushed back your site to re-analyse. Massive changes might be considered as doorway for spamming. Some people will optimise their sites. and when they will get ranked, they fully change the their contents to achieve their purpose. I highly suggest you update pages slowly.
  • Without knowing more about their sites, I would guess it is their overall link diversity. Make sure you look at what they have done already and build different types of links for them.

    • A tad off topic...

Here's a tip on link building. I accidentally discovered this "gem".

Don't know if it's a true gem or not, but here goes.

I make a good amount on selling links. I have never sold a global
link. That is, on all pages of a site. Every link buyer wants one
link on one page, and most are emphatic about that. I realized
this the other day and asked a broker.

Supposedly, the scenario is that if google notices the same
non-internal link on each page, it's a tip off to a paid link.

Both the paid link's site and the originating site could be looked
upon as trying to shmooze something.

      The so-called 950 penalty is not a sandbox. It's a complete
taking a site out of the mix short of de-indexing. Buying links
to bend SERPs is one thing google does not look highly upon.

And since google does most dirty work with non-human algorithms,
      well...

If you buy links, buy only one on each site and make it contextual,
      high up.

  • This seems to be affecting sites that are affiliates mainly. I've been doing some research, and it appears to be sites that have links out to affiliate programs, Does anyone have a clue how to get out of it quickly? It's definitely not QDF, it has happened to sites over 2 years old who were originally first page.

    Regards
    RW
  • My guess would be the overall quality of the site as well as the quality of the incoming links.

I agree Paul, HP only links are certainly the way forward if you want to buy. Also, perhaps try and get it well away from all the other paid links.
