It all depends on what result you are looking for. Take a look at what the most common ones have to offer, and if it matches what you are wanting to achieve then purchase that

Kind of silly recommending software to such a broad question and one that can't really be answered without additional context. Otherwise, that's just like going to car site and asking "I need a car.. which one should I buy?" Well, that varies greatly based on your budget, the amount of people you need it to carry (family?), etc.

So ausnetit, what are you trying to achieve? Based on that question, it sounds like you're new to SEO. In that case, the best tools to start with are the ones that help you with the first steps of SEO - research.

Market Samurai would be a solid start for someone new to SEO, as it covers several important areas, including keyword research, competitor research, rank tracking, etc.

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again (seem to see this question at least once a week).

When you have a method or system you are using to rank sites and make money then you know what the tedious tasks are. The program you want to buy is the one that automates those specific tasks.

Blindly buying any SEO software without already have your gameplan is, IMO, an extremely backwards way of doing things.

When you need an automation program you'll know it. You will know what you need automated and then you can do research and see which program does that task for the best price/quality comparison.

      Exactly.

For me, I use SEScout and AMR. I still do lots manually, since I don't like jumping the gun to buy stuff I may or may not need. I would like to automate some more tasks...patience (and being cheap) is a virtue.

Tell you what though...AMR certainly makes my life easy for the secondary linking I do. I also use it to auto-confirm emails from both those submissions and my directory submissions. Such a time saver. Now if only I could figure out how to use proxies...

I also use a free version of Traffic Travis, but I use it in tandem with Google Keyword Tool. Cheap!

    I didn't clearly understand two things;

What is the best tools for SEO?
What kind of SEO are you working on? Honestly, this question has millions of answers.

    XRumer, SEnuke X, & Scrapebox
Those are not "SEO Tools", those are "spam backlinking" tools.

The thing is, if you are looking for a "tool", as mentioned above, you should have your plan first. Then go with a tool.

Also, what do you really expect from a tool? SEO tools just give you the datas about competition, keywords and competitors. Don't expect a tool like "click & rank". Those are just for analyzing the things, not for getting rankings.

Like many others have already mentioned, without you providing more information all I can really do is tell you what I like to use.

For research, I use SECockpit. It's extremely fast for all the analysis it does. Once it's updated to let you import your own keyword lists, it will in my opinion be one of the if not the best keyword tool on the market.

As far as literal SEO tools go, right now all I use is Internet Oxygen. It's super low key right now but it does so very much more than any of its competition. Submit articles, submit videos, spin stuff, social bookmark, auto create your accounts, manage your social media, etc. The list could go on for quite awhile.

In my opinion, these are two of the best tools on the market today.

I would recommend Scrapebox for anyone.

The rest depends on your methods and what you are trying to achieve.

If you are just doing SEO for yourself, and like using link wheels or link pyramids, SEO Link Robot or SEnuke X are useful tools.

If you are looking to do article marketing, Article Marketing Robot is a good thing to own.

If you are doing SEO for others as well as yourself, you might want to look into establishing your own private network of high authority sites. Done right, this is far more valuable than any SEO tool. When you are doing SEO for someone else, they tend to be a bit less patient, so it is nice to be able to throw a bunch of high quality backlinks at a project right away.

I used Market Samurai and it is a great tool with a one off price. Combine that with maybe Magic Submitter which is more affordable than SeNuke X.
However I have to agree with Danny here about SECockpit and that is my tool of choice at present. A big time saver for me. However it is a Premium tool that a lot of people may not be able to afford the Top Level Plan.
But if you can budget SECockpit and Magic Submitter that is a pretty good combo. Just my opinion. Talking about these tools are liken to talking about Politics and Religion in some cases...lol. To each there own...

If you care about long term seo, avoid any black hat tools like xrumer etc.

    - Focus on branding your site for long term benefit
    - Focus on writing unique content on your website
    - Focus on adding new content on regular basis
    - Participate in forums that are related to your niche
    - Focus on article networks that moderate articles that go through their network
    - Be a guest blogger on blogs that are related to your niche

If your goal is short term, you can probably go with any of the tools listed above to achieve fast results.

For building off-page SEO I think that Article Marketing Robot and SE Nuke are both good - but SE Nuke is quite expensive, so certainly not worth getting unless you can comfortably afford the $147 a month.

I've heard very good things about Scrapebox, although I have not tried it myself.

For getting sites indexed quickly and building some fairly low value but diverse backlinks, tools such as Bookmarking Demon and Social Monkee (check my signature for a free version of this one!) are very good in my experience.

You have to know how to use the tools you buy if you want to get the most effect from them.

I use SEnuke X to great effect, but I'm sure some people will have this program and slag it off for not getting the results they wanted. So whatever you buy, you must understand how to use it effectively.

If you aren't looking to spend a high monthly fee then outsource what you want doing to someone who knows how to get the most effect out of the service.

although not a seo tool per se - understanding which markets to enter into and with which keywords is maybe the most important seo factor

Speaking from years of experience here, Scrapebox would be the best to get your feet wet. It does it all and can really open your eyes to how SEO works, and the information that you can use. It does have a learning curve but not nearly as bad as Xrumer or SENukeX.

I'd then probably recommend SENuke, as its a little more complicated but can allow you to automate a lot of the creation of linkwheels and other large network of sites spread throughout the net. This has a large monthly fee ($147?), so keep that in mind when purchasing it. They also have a 30 day free trial which is a great way to see if the software is good for you.

Finally, once you've mastered those, move on to the big daddy, Xrumer. Sure some say that this is utter spam garbage, but you don't need to spam hundreds of forums with this tool. You can use it intelligently and controlled and still have the same effect.

When you say SEO it can be on and off page. There are various tools to choose from online. For me, here are the tools I often use SEO Book - for Firefox plug-ins like Rank Checker, SEOCentro, Google Analytics to check the performance of my SEO efforts and marketing, and Google Adwords for keywords. You can also browse SEOChat for more information.

    Based on usage frequency:
    The Best Spinner
    Scrapebox
SENukeX - Forget it until you can earn that kind of money.
    SEO Powersuite
    AMR
    Backlink Energizer Pro

Tools/Services that I owned but don't use frequently (but do what they did):
    Social Monkee
    AutoBlog Samurai
Market Samurai (undoubtedly a very powerful tool but I'm not searching for niches everyday + I prefer SEO powersuite to analyze my competition)

Tools that I think sucks (no offense):
Sick Submitter - reporting sucks and its too damn slow.
xGen - Even slower than SS the last I tried 2 months ago.
