Hi!

Im pretty new to this IM stuff, but I have learned a thing or two...and one thing that had me thinking was the keyword research part of IM.

With millions of good Internet Marketers out there...isn´t all good keywords already in use? I mean, is the competition so hard these days that a newbie dont stand a chance?

    I don't think so.

Thinks are always changing and new opportunities appear every day.

Of course, if you're a newbie and have little knowledge about SEO you shouldn't expect to succeed with your first attempt, but it doesn't mean that you can't learn how to play the game and eventually succeed.

It's all about going through your learning curve and developing your skills.

Far from it Even in the most competitive niches you can always zoom in on a specific sub-niche and still get a piece of the action.

      Sounds great!

I have good knowledge of SEO, but keyword research is a new ballgame for me...

Should I go for 2, 3 or even 4 word keywords? Is that whats called "long tailed keywords"?

Not so much. Long tail keywords are those which are not searched for as frequently as other keywords.

Often these phrases are longer, but number of words in a phrase does not automatically make it a long tail phrase.

What keywords you want to use kind of depends on what you are doing on your site.

a few things to consider when searching for keywords:

people are always going to search for something, hence the internet. If you find a long tail KW put yourself in the shoes of the person searching for that LTKW (long tail keyword) and give them what they are looking for.

if you find a keyword with the word "free", i wouldn't use it. "free" isnt a buying keyword unless is something like "free energy" or "living meat free".. "free chicken coup info" probably isnt going to make you a sale. Would you give money for something that is free? If yes, let me know!

one thing that i have done in the past, for article, hubpages, and whatnot, is to take the keyword you find and add to it. "how to buy a laptop computer-What you need to know". get what i'm saying? or take the main kw and add something smaller to it at the end, such as: "plasma televisions-what is contrast ratio?"

dont worry about running out of keywords, the day we run out of keywords is the day the internet becomes useless.

    be good, good luck!

      Hej på dig, nordicempire!

One advantage you have is that if you search for keywords in Swedish you'll find there is far less competition (although the market is of course smaller). One trick you can use is to look for high competition keywords in English and then see if their Swedish equivalents are taken.

      Best of luck.

        Hej på dig själv Viktor!

I have found that keywords in swedish are far easier to find, but as you say, the market is smaller. Another problem with local keywords is the lack of good products to market. Most products (clickbank, amazon) are for an english audience. Of course we have swedish affiliate programs, but I think they generally pay a very low commission.

I'll admit that it has gotten much more saturated in the past few years, but you can still find golden nuggets if you look well enough. I'd recommend checking out Keyword Sniper Pro 2.0 from Jack Duncan. Nowadays I'd say it'd be nigh impossible for me to find keywords without it.

There's tons of KW's and I agree with Joe, there are not millions of good marketers. A lot of times it comes down to whether or not you are willing to put the effort in to go after a KW, rather than it being an impossibility.

Also remember that something like 90% of searches are one time phrases that might never be used again. Huge opportunity exists here even if you never tap into one "main" keyword ever again.
